Job Description:

As the construction operations manager, you may participate in the project planning, help determine the budget, select any necessary contractors, review paperwork and permits before submission, and direct the daily operations of each project. You may also coach and mentor employees, help with strategic planning for company growth, and develop professional relationships with both your employer and your company's customers. You may be asked to oversee multiple projects at the same time.

Responsibilities:
  • Works hand-in-hand with project managers to make sure there is efficient allocation of resources; they also strive to enhance the commercial value of the business
  • They try as much as possible to meet project budgets through assessing and analyzing operational and financial risks that may be encountered in the execution of planned construction projects.
  • They then advise the company in making decisions that are commercially viable.
  • The construction operations manager's role also entails making sure that works are allocated to project managers in an appropriate manner and are prioritized based on how urgent they are, and also based on the needs of the customer.
  • It is also the duty of the construction operations manager to explain technical information to clients or customers when the need arises.
  • He/she is in charge of the designing and execution of construction strategies upon which the completion of different projects will be based.
  • These strategies may deal with issues like mapping out guidelines for the selection of contractors to execute projects, and the specification of the pattern or order in which a project (construction activity) will be carried out.
  • He/she is always available to work with the project manager to make sure any form of challenge that comes up is quickly addressed and nipped in the bud.
  • He/she also plays the role of a middleman or communication link between project managers and the management staff of the company.
  • Fulfilling the responsibilities and duties of a construction operations manager requires communication skills, leadership skills, the ability to travel as needed, and the ability to read and understand complex construction documents.   • Construction operations manager performs various functions in ensuring effective planning and supervision of construction projects.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the project team to create a mutual understanding of the project strategy based on the requirement of the job
  • Conduct in-depth reviews and analysis of all project or contract documents so as to be familiar with every detail and/or requirements
  • Work with safety units in a bid to plan and manage safety programs for each project and make sure that all aspects of safety are reached
  • Help project managers and engineers in the arrangement and analysis of projects and scheduling of reports on projects
  • Oversee projects as they are being carried out to make sure that the work is done according to outlined specifications, and that they also conform with project timetable
  • Convey project needs from the project manager to the management of the firm. For example, in a case whereby extra funds are needed for the completion of a project, the project manager communicates the situation to the management of the company usually through the construction operations manager
  • Assist in the maintenance, development, and enhancement of the company's relationship with contractors in a bid to produce strategic partnership
  • Train and mentor employees in areas of project management and estimating.

Requirements
  • Ideal applicant will have 12 yrs. minimum and 20 yrs. maximum total experience in various construction roles. (Project Engineer, Site Superintendent, Construction Project Manager)
  • Minimum 8+ years' experience as a construction manager (Industrial structures experience needed) with overall project responsibility ideally gained from an A&E design build firm.
  • Highly desired is experience as a construction manager in industrial structures aimed at the food, beverage, and consumer products, pharmaceutical or related industries.
  • Successfully completed industrial projects with values ranging from $50K to $50M.
  • Project experience and working knowledge of process systems and ability to read P&IDs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and MS Project is desired.
  • Manufacturing site experience is preferred.
  • Relocation: we are looking for candidates reasonably local to the area. For highly qualified applicants outside of the local area some relocation assistance is available.
  • Willing and able to travel as necessary for project requirements to include but not be limited to: project installation and start-up activities, client meetings, company sponsored meetings, trainings, industry related seminars, forums, or conventions, etc.

Operations
  • Responsible for effective (safe, quality, timely, cost effective) execution of construction project work on site, through planning, coordination and control of construction resources and activities from inception to project closeout.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all materials of construction and methods of construction conform to company, industry, and regulatory standards, specifications, and requirements.
  • Ensure Daily project operations including weekly and daily planning activities
  • Maintain the project schedule
  • Oversees and attend (as needed) jobsite meetings, planning, progress and closeout meetings
  • Monitor jobsite progress to baseline cost and schedule. Checks compliance to the plans and specifications.
  • Analyze subcontractor change requests
  • Manage the project closeout process to settle all financial issues.
  • Manage safety for the project

Education:
  • BS Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical degree field.
  • Equivalent years of experience in Construction operations Management for manufacturing facilities can be substituted for degree.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Completion of OSHA 10- or 30-hour training certification required
  • Construction Project Management accreditation / certification (or equivalent experience)
