Overview

Ameri-Force has an urgent need for 40+ experienced seamen to work aboard vessels sailing throughout the Great Lakes region. Pay based on role, up to $410/day. Must possess a current US Coast Guard Merchant Mariner MMC/MMD or Z Card with the following qualifications; Ordinary Seaman, Able Bodied Seaman or QMED.

General Duties:

Conveyorman: During navigation and cargo loading, responsible for conveyor system and spaces and directs assisting personnel. Monitor, maintain and overhaul as necessary conveyor machinery and systems including greasing, changing idler rollers/frames, changing bearings, adjusting belt cleaners, zero speed switches, plugged chute indicators, condition and fluid levels of drive equip (reduction gearboxes, liquid drives, electric motors), deck winches, and hatch crane. Maintain conveyor transfer chutes and replace wear plates as necessary (incl. welding). Responsible for maintaining a clean work environment and may be required to clean and paint engine room or conveyor spaces as necessary. Utilizes sound lock out – tag out procedures as necessary for repair, service, maintenance and inspection tasks.

QMED Maintenance: During navigation, assists engine officers as directed incl. making rounds in engine room and logging critical operating parameters, checking fluid levels and filling as necessary and reporting any unusual operating conditions to engine officer on watch. Assists with fueling. Responsible for maintaining a clean work environment and may be required to clean and paint engine room or conveyor spaces as necessary. As directed, assists with conveyor and ballast system repairs in/forward of the engine room. Participate in machinery emergencies as directed.

Able Bodied Seaman: During cargo operations (loading/unloading), assists deck officer on watch including participating in vessel shifting and operating mooring winches, opening/closing hatch covers (incl. operating hatch crane engine, hatch clamps, etc.), rinses cargo holds, secures and clears anchors, relieves Wheelsman for breaks, attends boarding ladder operations and stands boarding ladder watch while maintaining USCG required log. Assist with cargo spillage on deck or in tunnel when directed.

General Vessel Utility: During cargo operations, while on deck, assists deck officer on watch as directed including participating in vessel shifting and handling mooring lines, opening/closing hatch covers (incl. hatch clamps, etc.) and cargo hold wash down hose operations. Assist with cargo spillage on deck or in tunnel when directed. While assigned to the Engine Department, assist Conveyorman as directed as Gateman incl. cargo hold gate operation and system monitoring. While assigned to the galley, take on stores and supplies as directed by the Chief Cook.

Cook: During operating season, responsible for galley and mess areas and directs assisting personnel. Responsible for proper inventory levels of food, drink, supplies, cleaning gear and clean linen and laundry, cleanliness of galley and mess areas in conformance with F.D.A. and company standards. Responsible for the on-time preparation, cooking and clean-up of all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Responsible for the overall safety in galley and mess areas and to contact the chief engineer for equipment maintenance. Submit requests to captain for food, supplies and laundry cleaning services. Utilizes necessary sanitation practices in all aspects of food preparation and handling. Reports equipment problems promptly to the chief engineer.
