Position Summary:Reports to the maintenance supervisor. Directly supervises the maintenance technicians and offender work crews. Responsible for duties involving general maintenance of facility grounds and repairs of equipment and buildings, assisting with technical trades such as plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry in compliance with Management Training Corporation (MTC) and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives.Essential Functions:

Perform maintenance and repair of structures, electrical systems, heating, plumbing, ventilation,air conditioning and drainage systems. Recommend contracted assistance when on-facility repair is not possible.

Repair or replace faulty or damaged light fixtures, outlets and fuses as directed.

Perform minor construction and repair of structural woodwork.

Perform repair or replacement of plumbing fixtures, washers, seals, etc.

Help prepare surfaces for finishing, i.e. painting, as directed.

Assist in supervision of maintenance technicians.

Direct offenders assigned to facility maintenance.

Perform preventive maintenance checks of building and equipment.

Perform routine schedule checks of air conditioning systems.

Provide on-call support in emergency situations or equipment breakdowns.

Clean, transport, and move equipment as needed.

Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.

Maintain accountability of offenders and property, adhere to safety practices.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.Education and Experience Requirements:Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED. Six (6) years full-time, wage-earning facilities maintenance, construction or facilities maintenance administration experience. Courses in a maintenance or construction related field from a trade or technical school accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE) may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for a maximum substitution of two (2) years. -OR- Graduation from a program in a maintenance or construction related field from a U.S. military technical training school may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
