We are located in WEST Houston and have three more part-time, afternoon positions open for additional SPANISH teachers for our Summer (and also next Fall) semester. Our Summer students typically do not come from our school (MPHS), but from all the surrounding high schools in west Houston. These students are actually taking a Spanish COURSE from us, for regular high school credit, which transfers to their private or home-zoned school. We teach the course on a one-to-one or small group basis, vs a classroom 'lecture' type. We are somewhat like a 'night' school, but earlier and particularly flexible. The Summer School will likely be back in the school depending on how the Virus is affecting things. If not, we will Zoom with the students. Zoom is not our preference (if things are safe and reasonable).
You can choose what day(s), and how many hours per day. Summer hours are from noon - 4:00pm, Monday through Thursday, no Fridays. The teaching is more like tutoring, one or up to eight students. The candidate must have prior experience teaching HIGH SCHOOL Spanish.
MPHS provides the curriculum and lesson plans. The schedule for the students is self-paced, and teaching is done by working with small groups, and individuals, more than traditional lecturing. The is to be innovative, and to maintain structure with enjoyable learning.
The right candidate will have excellent communication skills and strong self-initiative. Requirements include prior knowledge and experience with the standard state high school Spanish curriculum and typical reading materials and expectations. Above that, we look for innovation, enthusiasm and someone who will be an outstanding role model for our students.
Memorial Private High School, established in 2004 and accredited by SACS, is a private faith-based middle and high school in the west Houston, Memorial area. MPHS is a warm and friendly place to work.
Remember to consider your drive time if you do not live on the west end of town (see map on website). You need experience teaching HIGH School, including Spanish III and Spanish IV.
