We have openings for additional Math and Science after-school teachers at MPHS. We especially need those with a degree and proficiency in all high school Mathematics, especially Geometry. The right candidate will have excellent communication skills, self-initiative and be highly dependable. You also MUST have experience teaching or tutoring Math at the high school level. For straight tutoring, you need to be at least a junior in college. MPHS does not tutor students at the elementary level.
MPHS was established in 2004, and is a private faith-based high school in west Houston, accredited by Cognia/AdvancED/SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools). The school, our Summer School Program and our evening tutoring (The MET) is focused only on the secondary level, including 6th - 12th grades. MPHS opens its doors to all surrounding middle and high school students for afternoon, evening tutoring, year-round courses and Summer School. Our stand-alone school building is located in a beautiful area next to a park in WEST Memorial, surrounded by other schools. MPHS is a warm and friendly place to teach!
Our Tutoring and Summer School students typically do NOT come from our own school (MPHS), but from all the surrounding high schools in west Houston! Our year-round and Summer students are taking a Science or Math course from us, for regular high school credit, which transfers to their home-zoned school. We teach the course on a one-to-one or small group basis, vs a classroom 'lecture' type. We also tutor students every weekday evening in most any subject, especially in Math and Science.
You have to be up to the multi-tasking challenge of teaching students on a one-to-one and small group basis. The goal is to be innovative, and to maintain structure with enjoyable learning.
After school hours are from 3:45 to 6:30 and later on some subjects, Monday through Thursday, no Fridays. You can choose the days.
The right candidate will be very dependable and able to commit to the proposed schedule.
Remember to consider your drive time if you do not live on the WEST end of town (see map on website), especially given that this is a part-time position! For tutoring, you need to live within about 20 minute commute to the school. This is an excellent part-time or summer job, joining a high-caliber team!
