In this role you will support NASA in being the lead of a team that advises the ISS increment mission management that visiting vehicles are safe to approach and dock/berth as well as depart from the ISS.

This position will be located on-site in Houston, TX

What You'll Be Doing
  • By performing the tasks below, considering the environmental factors, ISS inclination, orbital dynamic plan of the ISS and spacecraft, the contractor shall approve the approach, rendezvous, and docking/berthing of visiting vehicles to the ISS.
  • By performing the tasks below, considering the environmental factors, ISS inclination, orbital dynamic plan of the ISS and spacecraft, the contractor shall approve the un-docking/disembarking and departure of visiting vehicles from the ISS.
  • Review and maintain understanding of the visiting vehicle GNC and RPO system requirements and their appropriate verification methods
  • Perform GNC/RPO systems analyses to verify compatibility of the visiting vehicle with their defined functional and performance requirements for the mission
  • Identify and participate in the resolution of GNC/RPO performance related issues and approve the developed solution of issues
  • Expertise in analyzing system performance for visiting spacecraft to their unique GNC/RPO algorithms and simulation models
  • Review and revise GNC and RPO specifics of NASA Interface Requirements Document (IRD)
  • Maintain relationships with a diverse technical teams, including personnel from engineering, safety, flight operations, crew office, and providers
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision
  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings
  • Familiarity with ISS documentation databases and SharePoint sites

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree or advanced degree from an accredited program in a technical discipline
  • 8+ years' working in GNC, Rendezvous and Proximity operations and Docking and Berthing operations
  • Have experience with spacecraft navigation topics, such as estimation theory, covariance analysis, orbital propagation and perturbation, relative navigation, rendezvous and proximity operations, collision avoidance, formation flight, or space situational awareness.
  • Have an analyst (setting up and executing batch simulation runs, custom post processing, drawing trends and insights) of (Space Domain Awareness, SIGINT, Special Comms, Directed Energy, Rendezvous and Proximity Operations)
  • Knowledge of space flight certification processes to ensure performance and safety requirements are met
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to work within a team environment, where the team is distributed across multiple agencies, organizations, projects and programs
  • Ability to identify and communicate concerns to leadership in a diplomatic manner
  • U.S citizenship is required

  • Have the knowledge of various current visiting vehicles allowed to dock/berth with the ISS (e.g. SpaceX Crew and Cargo and Cygnus)
  • Experience working with/on the ISS program within GNC or trajectory areas.
  • Understanding of the ISS management, operations, and problem resolution processes
