Technical Trainer/Writer Location: Remote Description: Our is seeking an experienced Technical Trainer to develop, create, and deliver custom and pre-existing training content, primarily focused on faculty, staff, and students in support of our IT services and applications. Learners may be synchronous or asynchronous, virtually or in-classroom, thus trainer candidates should be experienced with creating thorough and concise documentation and delivering highly-interactive course content through both in-person and web-based, prerecorded and live platforms. The ideal candidate should love technology and finds joy in helping others learn. This role will assist both the project teams and the OIT Campus Services (Helpdesk and Desktop Support) teams to introduce and upskill the user base on current and modern use of technologies which includes but is not limited to:

  • Microsoft 365 - Windows 10/11, Productivity Suite, SharePoint, Teams, etc.
  • Google Workspace
  • Document Management - Box, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.
  • Apple MacOS and Collaboration Apps
Responsibilities:

  • Create clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation for IT services and applications
  • Develop and deliver engaging training materials for users at all levels of technical proficiency
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure the accuracy and completeness of documentation and training materials
  • Manage documentation and training projects from start to finish, including planning, writing, editing, formatting, and publishing
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify training needs and opportunities for improvement
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and documentation and make recommendations for improvements
  • Stay up-to-date on new features and functionality of products and incorporate them into documentation and training materials as appropriate
Required Expertise and Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience as a technical writer or support documentation specialist
  • At least 3 years of experience delivering technical training to adult learners
Preferred Expertise and Experience:

  • 3 years of IT support or infrastructure experience in a professional environment
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and other training delivery platforms
  • Advanced to Expert level of knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, etc.)
  • Basic to Advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft 365 technologies (SharePoint, Flow, Forms, PowerBI, etc.)
  • Basic to Advanced knowledge and experience with Google Workspace technologies (Gmail, Drive, Sheets, etc.)
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and other web technologies
  • Knowledge of low-code/no-code tools
  • Experience with Azure, Google Cloud Platform or AWS cloud services
Preferred Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g. technical writing, instructional design, computer science) or equivalent experience
  • Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) or CompTIA Technical Trainer (CTT+) certification
  • Google Certified Trainer/Educator
  • Office 365 certification
  • Google Workspace certification
  • Microsoft MCSA or MCSE for infrastructure technologies
  • Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or AWS certification
  • CompTIA Certification (Security+, Network+, etc.)
