JOB SUMMARY This a full-time position responsible for providing oversight for the work performed by contract relay and apparatus engineers and technicians working on a multi-year Transmission & Distribution Substation GRID Investment program. This position has the flexibility to be worked remotely, although there will be some travel required to attend meetings and while providing project oversight while testing and commissioning activities are being performed. Some overnight travel can be expected, especially during the spring and fall construction periods.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Review contractor written construction work plans and compare them to the substation control design drawings to help ensure that they align with the design and have addressed all risk.

  • Review the contractors project execution plan to ensure that all necessary test equipment has been identified based on the project scope.
  • Review and compare the project outage plan to the scope of work to help ensure that the testing activities can be safely completed within the time allotted.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education Requirements:

  • 4-year BS Engineering Degree or Engineering Technology Degree

    AND
  • A minimum of 2 years Protective Relay Testing work experience
OR

  • 2-year Technical Degree in a related field

    AND
  • A minimum of 5 years Protective Relay Testing work experience
OR

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

    AND
  • A minimum of 10 years Protective Relay Testing work experience
  • PE License is a plus.

Experience Requirements:

  • Protective relay testing and commissioning experience required to include knowledge of relay calibration, DC functional testing, relay logic testing, and load/current reading verification.
  • Experience in testing and commissioning both electro-mechanical and microprocessor-based relays.
  • Familiar with microprocessor-based relay software, such as, SEL AcSELerator (SEL-5030).
  • Experience in using various relay and apparatus test equipment and identifying what needs to be on-site based on the project's scope.
  • Substation apparatus testing experience preferred to include knowledge of various tests required for all substation equipment, such as: Power Circuit Breakers, Main Power Transformers, CT's & PT's, Motor Operated Disconnects, LTC's & Regulators, & Capacitor Banks.
  • Adept at reading and understanding substation control design drawings, such as: Substation One Lines, Substation Three Lines, AC & DC Elementaries, Panel Wiring Diagrams, & Equipment Drawings.
  • Experience in leading testing activities on large capital substation construction projects.
  • Substation RTU programming and/or maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Experience in writing and/or executing substation high-voltage switching is preferred.
  • Formal leadership experience is a plus.
  • Electric power utility transmission operations, substation maintenance, switchboard wiring, or substation construction experience is a plus.
