JOB SUMMARYThis position will be contracted through Huntsville Memorial Hospital;
to serve as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer to Sam Houston State
University (SHSU). This is an individual contractor position. Primary
duty is to assist the Head Athletic Trainer of SHSU with Sports Medicine
duties and responsibilities.QUALIFICATIONSEducation:
College graduate with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, physical
therapy or related field required.
Must be working towards a Master's Degree.
Licensure/Certification:
Bachelor's Degree
Valid license issued by the Texas Advisory Board of Athletic
Trainers
BOC Certified
CPR/BLS certified upon employment
Experience:
Previous physical therapy and/or athletic training experience
preferred.
JOB DUTIES:
Visit various entities on a weekly basis( with contract)
Call or visit various entities periodically( without contract)
Evaluation and Rehabilitation of athletic injuries, based on
Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers and the Texas Occupations Code
for Health Professions, and Scope of Practice.
Refer injuries to appropriate physician based on Athletic Trainer's
discretion and independent judgment.
Primary provider of medical services for various high school
sporting events.
Pursue and maintain productive relationships with area high schools.
Collaborate with Physical Therapist in Center for Rehabilitation as
needed to prepare athletes for return to play.
Athletic Injury Prevention and Care:
Recognition, evaluation, and assessment of injuries
Immediate care of injuries
Treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries
Training and conditioning techniques
Taping and Bracing
Effectively communicate with the student athlete and staff
Policy Implementation:
Keeps informed of and complies with applicable state, conference,
and school regulations and policies.
Support and assist the administration in implementing all policies
governing student life and conduct.
Maintain records of athletic physicals, medical records, and
insurance records on each athlete.
Attend and participate in faculty/staff meetings.
Adhere to the Professional Code of Ethics of a teacher/educator and
athletic trainer at all times.
Required Skills:
Demonstrated ability to perform skills required for rehabilitation
of patients and athletes.
Desire to work within a comprehensive healthcare team.
