    Manager, Cloud Engineering

    Overview

    7-Eleven's Cloud Engineering team is looking for an experienced Software Development Manager who has a passion for people, cloud technology and innovation. We are looking for a person with strong cloud technical knowledge and experience building and mentoring a team. This person will lead the day-to-day activities for the Cloud Engineering team in a multi-cloud environment. The role will also help to define the cloud technology roadmap and architecture as we continue to build cloud-native solutions. The leader of this team will help guide the design of cloud infrastructure, and cloud native solutions, while ensuring high availability, effective monitoring and cost optimization.

    The successful candidate will have a passion for new technology, automation, and tools. The candidate should have hands-on cloud infrastructure experience, with defining a technology roadmap, and a solid grasp of cloud governance while putting the customer first. The ideal person for this role will have extensive experience designing cloud native solutions with high availability, self-healing and monitoring. The candidate will have experience leading and mentoring a cloud engineering team of 6 - 10 engineers and architects.

    Duties:
    • Manage day-to-day activities of the cloud engineering team, setting priorities, and collaborating with the software development teams.
    • Build, coach, and mentor cloud engineers for their career growth.
    • Provide technical guidance to the cloud engineering team, with a focus on reliability, monitoring, self-healing, and automation.
    • Help to define the vision for the future of the cloud at 7-Eleven, ensuring high availability of cloud-based solutions.
    • Lead resolution of cloud-related incidents, including prioritization and escalation, root cause analysis, with short-term remediation and long-term prevention.
    • Understand audit and compliance for cloud services.
    • Contribute to cloud-related network reliability and utilization growth planning.
    • Champion designs, tools, and processes for high availability of cloud services, including proactive monitoring and automated failover.

    Qualifications

    Must Haves:
    • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering.
    • 2+ years leading a cloud engineering team.
    • 6+ years hands-on experience building and monitoring cloud infrastructure in a large scale, high volume environment.
    • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), such as CloudFormation, ARM Templates and/or Terraform.
    • Strong Experience in AWS, Google Cloud Platform and/or Azure clouds, with the demonstrated ability to optimize the costs and explain the benefits of alternate solutions.
    • Mentor and coach cloud engineers to help them advance their careers, make informed decisions quickly and take ownership of services and applications at scale.
    • Extensive knowledge of cloud architecture, security, and infrastructure at scale.
    • Good working understanding of enterprise-level cloud networking.
    • Self-driven, proactive (someone that can take an initiative and drive to get tasks done and does not need daily directions) as well as acts with urgency.
    • Ability to communicate complex technical information to all stakeholders of the project, including those who do not have a technical background.
    • Demonstrated experience showing exceptional troubleshooting skills to quickly assess root cause and formulate both short- and long-term solutions.
    • Stays current with cloud best practices and tools.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Preferred:
    • Extensive experience with enterprise-level cloud networking, such as AWS Direct Connect, VPC, Security Groups, as well as cloud security, such as IAM roles and policies.
    • Experience with log and metric monitoring and alerting tools like ELK, DataDog, New Relic, Logz.io or similar tools.
