Responsible for developing, executing, and communicating strategic merchandise plans that support the financial objectives of the corporation. Partner with the Merchant to identify opportunities and risks, and to develop strategies that mitigate risks and capitalize opportunities. Ensure inventory in stores is at an optimum level. Responsible for managing the Open-to-Buy (OTB) forecasts.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Partner with the Merchant to develop and execute financial plans consisting of sales, inventory, receipts, gross margin, and GMROI for an assigned category and brand

Present OTB, plans, and financial strategies to Leadership

Work with the Merchant on SKU optimization to maximize sales and minimize duplication of styling

Execute product financial strategy for new, core, sell down, and clearance merchandise

Manage OTB weekly and run monthly OTB meetings with strategic recommendations on the business

Provide financial strategy to determine optimal planogram layout

Develop sku level sales and inventory plans and forecasts for an assigned category and brand

Manage the replenishment for all specified product, including monitoring and adjusting variables (stock re-balancing, return-to-vendor projects, and ideal distribution center inventory levels) to meet store needs and maximize inventory productivity (e.g. targeted in-stock level)

Ensure that sufficient quantities of advertised product are in stock on a per store basis

Indentify risks and opportunities by sku and work with a cross functional team to develop strategies that optimize the business

Set up model stocks for new skus and manage the store allocation

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Zale Corporation guidelines, policies and procedures and applicable laws. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

May supervise Assistant Merchandise Planner(s)

Excellent analytical skills

Proficient in Word, Excel, and Access with ability to quickly learn other software (Arthur, E3, Business Objects, etc.)

Strong interpersonal and presentation skills

Detail oriented

Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising, Marketing, Business, or related area

Minimum of 2-4 years of merchandise or retail experience preferred

Non-degreed candidates considered if the candidate has an extensive background in retail merchandising, or as an Assistant Buyer, Assistant Merchandise Planner, or Associate Buyer
