Description
The IT Operations Center is responsible for the monitoring and response of IT service related issues to expedite repair and minimize negative customer experience.
The Operations team also provides coordination of new technology and service deployment, new equipment acceptance, and configuration management.
The Operations department is a 24 / 7 service provider for the organization. The Systems Operators provide 24 / 7 surveillance for mission critical services.
These include, but are not limited to, detection and isolation of switch, network, transport, or systems faults across multiple technologies;
and performing daily operations tasks for production systems e.g. system and job monitoring, job priority management, error logging and tracking, basic support and 1st level problem resolution and daily operational reporting.
Applies systems analysis techniques and procedures to proactively identify systems and consults with programmers and engineers to identify and correct hardware, software and system operational problems.
Maintains strong situational awareness of changes being performed throughout the core environment.
Manages various i5 / AS400 system objects such as job queues, subsystems, message queues, etc. Assists with maintenance, changes, updates and re-starts of i5 / AS400 and Windows servers as directed.
Supports internal clients with i5 / AS400 system issues.
Supports IT clients and partners with Windows or Linux server and other production system issues.
Identifies production system issues or weaknesses and makes recommendations for change.
Assists, manages, and monitors backups and provides timely and accurate offsite tape rotation for those systems using tapes.
Monitors major corporate or ecommerce applications.
Collaborates with server and network personnel to update or troubleshoot infrastructure.
Participates in 24 / 7 on-call rotation as-needed.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Monitors core network / service equipment for outages and performance issues
Performs equipment checks in accordance with established policies and procedures
Isolates and identifies root cause of faults for network, servers, and applications in conjunction with the infrastructure, applications and security teams
Monitors all mission-critical backend environments
Properly assesses impact to core network / service and resulting impact to customers
Proactively reviews operating conditions to seek out potential customer impacting issues before occurring
Reports issues which impact the environment to expedite restoration effort
Notifies management, as required, for escalation and notification support
Notifies identified business owners and support personnel during mission critical issues as outlined by incident management procedures
Establishes operations bridge and communication to required parties for restoration efforts
Maintains situational awareness of current events and maintenance affecting service delivery
Validates change management of pre and post maintenance activity
Performs alarm verifications on all core network / service elements
Provides feedback to team and Management to improve best practices and procedures
Performs other duties as assigned to support the continued success of self, team, department, and Company
Correlates system trending information and facilitates timely restoration response as needed.

Working Conditions
Position requires flexibility in work schedule. Work is normally performed in a typical interior / office environment. Limited physical effort is required beyond long periods of standing, walking and sitting.
Requirements
Associates degree in a related field preferred; or equivalent work / military experience.
1 or more years of Network Operations Center, Security Operations Center or Systems Operations Center experience preferred, along with 2 or more years technical experience in a related field.
Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment required
Ability to take initiative and handle various tasks simultaneously while working efficiently, effectively, and independently under minimal supervision required
Ability to process information accurately, follow directions and provide direction to others in addition to possessing the skills necessary for decision making required
Must have strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Sound ability to analyze issues
Proven experience and detailed knowledge in supporting a 7x24 environment
General understanding of network design.
Demonstrate basic proficiency in Windows server operations and monitoring.
Demonstrate basic understanding of Linux server operations.
Demonstrate basic understanding of network and WAN operations.
Basic understanding of Power 7 / 8 / AS400 operations is a plus.
Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Outlook and Excel. Reporting skills using Qlik, Splunk, SAS or other analytical tools a plus.
Experience in using ITIL processes
Experience with using an operational dashboard and the ability to assist in the creation of an operational dashboard through the identification of key performance indicators
