This position will serve as Extravehicular Activity (EVA) and Human Surface Mobility Program (EHP) Representative to the Gateway Program Safety Review Panel.

This position is at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX

What You'll Be Doing
  • Develop and implement safety policy and requirements for element hardware, payloads and operations, integration of hardware/software, and assure compliance with International Space Station (ISS), EHP, Gateway, and Human Landing System (HLS) safety requirements.
  • Provide recommendations to senior-level EHP Program management on hazard and safety analyses, risk assessments, and evaluate operations to ensure compliance with approved S&MA requirements to minimize operational risk.
  • Continuously monitor open work related to flight readiness.
  • Serve as a representative of the EHP Safety and Mission Assurance/Program Risk office in other EHP boards, panels, working groups and forums.
  • Participate in NASA, Artemis Campaign Development (ACD), and EHP Program Office forums
  • Develop periodic status reports and presentations.
  • Develop special reports/discussions of findings, issues, conclusions, recommendations, and risk assessments.
  • Formulate recommendations to senior-level program management.
  • Continuously monitor, capture, and integrate S&MA/Risk information across multiple programs, NASA centers, industry, and international partners.
  • Serve as a highly proactive technical specialist, understanding issues and formulating options/recommendations, while working closely with the program S&MA team and across other offices, teams, working groups, and panels
  • Identify and initiate next level analysis as needed supporting hazard abatement process for hardware and software.
  • Coordinate requirements, technical objectives, interfaces, standards, issues and findings with subject matter experts and stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties for the customer as required.

What You Need to Be Successful

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree or advanced degree in engineering or science
  • 8 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in a systems engineering and/or program management environment
  • Five years of experience working in mission management and operations type roles
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NASA program life cycle
  • Ability to effectively utilize oral and written communication to express technical concepts and recommendations to personnel at all technical and managerial levels
  • Ability to work in in a quick-paced, small core team that leads technical discussions across a large EVA community and influences teams across the Artemis enterprise
  • Initiative and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers
  • Excellent teaming and leadership skills with an ability to multi-task across various issues/disciplines simultaneously
  • Excellent presentation and communications skills, including development of and briefing of decision packages and complex information in a succinct and polished manner.
  • Experience working across diverse teams and many different engineering disciplines
  • Knowledge of space flight certification processes to ensure performance and safety requirements are met

  • Knowledge of EVA systems and current technology
  • Eight years of experience with NASA spacecraft systems
  • Experience performing or leading technical and programmatic tasks for NASA
