The EVA (Extravehicular Activity) Office Hardware Manager is responsible for a portion of EVA hardware including technical, cost and schedule management. This position supports the NASA EVA Hardware Office on new hardware development using proven NASA centric project management processes and tools. This position will also support the sustainment of existing EVA hardware by ensuring hardware readiness for missions, providing real time mission support, assessment and resolution of anomalies, and coordination of hardware modifications.

This is an onsite position located at the Johnson Space Center

What You'll Be Doing
  • Manage day-to-day activities to ensure EVA hardware readiness on the ISS.
  • Serve as the project manager and/or provides oversight to multiple projects through the entire project life cycle including concept of operations, requirements, architecture, design, implementation, integration, testing, operations and sustaining engineering.
  • Serve as the technical monitor for appropriate contracts.
  • Plan and coordinate the design, development, testing and evaluation of new as well as maintain the current fleet of EVA tools, translation aids and equipment.
  • Lead integrated project teams to ensure flight readiness and provide project status presentations to various boards and panels.
  • Implement logistical coordination and planning for delivery of hardware for launch on space vehicles and on-orbit use
  • Support real time ISS mission activities for planned and contingency EVAs.
  • Lead and coordinate all aspects of new EVA Class I and III hardware from conception through design development, requirements, technical integration, certification, fabrication, and delivery.
  • Provide support for EVA technical boards and panels
  • Report to senior management project status, risks, recommendations, and forward plans.
  • Support maintenance and preparation of NBL and training tools.
  • Serve as lead for Primary Life Support System (PLSS) Hardware, including ground testing applications.
  • Provide interface for ISS/EVA operations ESOC hardware at the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL).
  • Provide interface to Crew and Hardware vendor for tactical/strategic hardware build plans to ensure EVA capability.
  • Provide interface to Human Health and Performance (HHP) for EVA Operations related to Human System Integration (HSI).
  • Lead and integrate the EVA community to define and execute strategic EVA hardware plans to ensure hardware availability for current and future missions.
  • Periodic travel is expected.

What You Need to Be Successful

Minimum Requirements:
  • 8+ years experience and knowledge of EVA tools/spacesuit technology.
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited program
  • An understanding of NASA program life cycle and system engineering processes.
  • Ability to effectively utilize oral and written communication to express technical concepts and recommendations to personnel at all technical and managerial levels.
  • Ability to work effectively, rationally, and quickly in real-time environments of rapid-change, conflicting requirements, and occasional pressure.
  • Ability to coordinate and lead engineering teams in a matrixed organization.
