Coordinating wound care therapy into the total nursing care plan for patients

Participating in patient and family teaching

Providing leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel to maintain standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.

Assessing the patient’s skin condition and wound care needs upon admission

Setting weekly goals and recommending appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals

Reporting pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (i.e. physicians, charge nurse and/or Wound Care Specialist) and recording those observations accurately and concisely

Participating in team conferences in development of individualized nursing care plans as they relate to wound care

Administering medications and performing treatments to assigned patients within the wound care environment

Participating in orientation of new personnel

Participating in unit quality assurance and improvement

Participating in hospital committees as designated

Attending mandatory hospital education and unit meetings

Adhering to and enforcing hospital dress code policy

Actively participating in the identification of areas for improvement and participating in the improvement process

Providing education for Clinical Staff quarterly

QualificationsThe Wound Care Licensed Vocational Nursemust:

Have graduated from an accredited school of nursing

Have a current LPN license for the state in which the hospital resides

Have a current CPR certification and maintain the same

Have two years direct patient care experience

Experience in wound care is preferred
