The MuleSoft Technical Lead is responsible for designing solutions for the API development team and reports directly to the application manager. This individual will participate in all phases of System Development Life Cycle applying expert knowledge of system interaction and business familiarity to meet business needs. The Lead will assist with multiple tasks including technical design, API development, code review, AWS services, product releases, and providing direction/oversight to API development team. The role will also interact with different groups including Firewall team, Infrastructure and Security teams, Mule Admin Team, and Solution Architect team to identify and resolve issues as required. The Lead will also interact with third party vendors and multiple ancillary teams to coordinate development efforts.

Responsibilities:
  • Understand and clarify complex business integration requirements and produce eloquent and scalable designs utilizing the MuleSoft Anypoint platform
  • Ability to drive design/architecture discussions and create/distribute application architecture documents across the team
  • Explain complex technical issues to project managers, developers and architects in an easy-to-understand manner and recommend clearly thought out solutions
  • Design and/or develop integration solutions via the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, which includes understanding source and target systems, along with any data transformation needed. This also includes RAML creation, Exchange documentation, and any supporting design documentation to ensure SDLC (software development life cycle) is adhered to in accordance with Globe Life’s documented standards.
  • Create API mapping documentation for development team that provides details on transformations, XML paths, and mapping for source to target
  • Deliver MuleSoft components as specified in the design and requirements, within established budget, time and quality standards
  • Effectively participate and interact with the integration team of diverse individuals, who are dispersed geographically, throughout the project lifecycles. This includes working with offshore teams to lead development efforts and provide oversight
  • Ensure unit testing of MuleSoft components are completed and documented by the development team
  • Conduct code reviews for MuleSoft components and follow through on action items as a result of the review. Globe Life has documented standards each development team follows. The lead will ensure these standards are present at time of code review
  • Support all testing, including Development Integration Testing, System Testing, User Acceptance Testing, End-to-End Testing and Performance Testing
  • Ability to work flexible hours, when needed, to accommodate different time zones based on project needs
  • Communicates status of assignments to Manager or Lead
  • Notifies Manager or Lead of issues that impact productivity or ability to meet expectations
  • Ensure development team is checking work in to central repositories
  • Technical Skills
  • Experience working in large, complex integration projects that leverage agile and waterfall processes
  • Demonstrated ability to architect, design and lead development of software components through production releases
  • Designing and developing MuleSoft APIs from specification to implementation
  • Experience in AWS technologies (S3, SQS, Lambda, API Gateway)
  • Experience with Anypoint API Designer, Anypoint Exchange, Anypoint API Portal, Anypoint Studio
  • Familiarity with API Patterns and design including decomposition into reusable components
  • Experience and understanding authentication methods not limited to: Basic, OAuth, SAML, OpenID Connect
  • Strong XML experience, including schema design, XPath, XQuery, XSLT
  • Experience in developing, executing and documenting unit tests
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Experience in working with version control systems and software configuration management tools such as MS Team Foundation Server (TFS)
  • Scripting experience to automate configuration and deployment of objects using WLST and Maven
  • Motivated to learn new technologies such as Cloud ecosystem, API Management – nice to have

Non-Technical Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Health or Life Insurance experience is a plus
  • Self-starter with initiative and drive
  • Critical thinking and problem resolution

Required Experience
  • BS degree in Computer Science or related degree
  • 5+ years of development experience in MuleSoft involving SOAP and REST based Web Services
  • Demonstrated ability to write API design specifications using industry standard modeling languages (i.e. RAML, OpenAPI)
  • Proven ability to have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • 2+ years’ experience in AWS technologies (S3, SQS, Lambda, API Gateway)
  • 2+ years’ experience working with modern Enterprise Service BiPaaS architectures (i.e. MuleSoft, Dell Boomi, Informatica, Oracle, Microsoft)
