This position serves as the Program Chief Engineer (CE) for the Commanders Primary Sight (CPS/GPS) A-kit development program within the Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance Systems (ISRS) Reconnaissance and Targeting Systems (RTS) Product Area. The CE is the single engineering leadership point of contact and is responsible for all engineering execution of a program. The CE is accountable to the Program Manager and their functional manager. They are indirectly accountable to the Program Area Chief Engineer and is assigned by the systems engineering organization. The Chief Engineer will interface daily with the Program Area Chief Engineer, Program Manager, and other technical leaders, or individual engineering contributors. The Program CE oversees the entire program life cycle that encompasses: Production, Engineering and Manufacturing Development, Advanced Concept Transition, and internal investment (IR&D, Capital) efforts. For this particular opportunity, the candidate will step into an already established effort and continue through the final stages of program development leading to production start. The Program CE is the single engineering leadership point of contact and is responsible for the engineering execution of an entire program, overseeing all technical, schedule, and financial aspects: Establish and manage a program vision, strategy and goals to align the Program with the Customer and facilitate conflict resolution Ensure technical integrity and engineering execution across all IPTs, CPTs, and disciplines within the Program Primary program technical POC with the customer senior technical counterparts Authority to manage all program engineering related activities across the program. Authority over and direct management of the lead engineers to ensure that the overall system design is optimized to meet the required performance within the project constraints (cost and schedule), and production efforts execute as planned. Required Skills: Minimum of 10+ years EO/IR hardware design and/or systems engineering in a development and production organization.
Experience with laboratory test, Design and Qualification testing of land/vehicle-based systems.
Demonstrated success in leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
Experience leading derivation of component and product requirements from system level requirements.
Willingness to travel periodically in support of offsite testing/customer meetings.
Strong technical writing and oral communication skills, experience interfacing with customer technical and program leadership personnel.
Cost/schedule development and management (EVMS)
Presentation preparation and delivery skills
Deploying a rigorous Integrated Product Development Process
Prior experience as Lead Engineer, IPT Lead or Program Manager, Lead Systems Engineer, and Design Engineer or IVT Engineer.
Desired Skills:
Experience as a LSE or CE on a previous program
Reconnaissance and Targeting Systems (RTS) product area design and/or systems engineering experience
Hardware development background including but not limited to EO/IR systems that support surveillance and targeting.
Experience with program development and execution.
Required Education:
B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (Optics Focus), or Physics or related technical degree
Desired Education:
M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Physics or related technical degree
