Summary

This is a senior-level control systems specialist position primarily focused on supporting day-to-day operations as well as the support of capital projects for crude oil gathering and transmission assets in west Texas and New Mexico.

The role will have a heavy emphasis on programming and maintaining PLCs, operator interface graphics, and flow computers.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and modify PLC and flow computer programs for various makes and models which may include Modicon Quantum, SCADAPack 32, Fisher ROC, and Allen-Bradley.

Develop and maintain field level operator interface graphics.

Develop and maintain control narratives, Cause & Effects diagrams, and typical engineering drawings for assigned stations and sites.

Review instrumentation and control systems equipment specifications and designs as part of capital and maintenance projects.

Work with the pipeline control center and the SCADA team to perform point-to-point checks.

Perform testing, commissioning, start-up, and control loop tuning of new control systems equipment.

Part of a rotating on-call support team for operations support during nights and weekends.

Periodically work extended hours, including nights and weekends, in remote operating environments and during periods of inclement weather.

Configure and maintain wireless communication systems utilizing FreeWave Zumlink and Cambium radios.

Develop recommendations and solutions to improve instrumentation and control system reliability, optimization, and cost savings.

Support operations and maintenance by providing technical guidance and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems equipment.

Requirements

Minimum of 8 years of control systems experience in the oil & gas, petrochemical, or power generation industries is required.

Up to 50% travel to field locations.

Desirable Knowledge & Experience

Extensive experience with commissioning and start-up of typical process equipment found in industrial environments (e.

g. pumps, valves, instrumentation, etc.).

Knowledgeable of crude oil truck offload control and ticketing systems.

Understanding of typical controls for VFDs up to 4.160 kV, Motor Operated Valves (MOVs), and flow and pressure control valves.

Experienced with IEC 61131-3 standard PLC languages.

Ability to develop and verify control functions of PLC logic written in function block and ladder logic in Schneider Electric Unity, Modbus Concept, Fisher ROC, and Rockwell ControlLogix platforms.

Working knowledge of Red Lion or similar network gateways.

Experienced troubleshooting instrumentation associated with control systems.

Knowledgeable of DOT requirements for crude oil gathering and transmission systems.

Understanding of typical industrial networks and protocols; specifically, Modbus TCP and RTU.

Must be detailed oriented, self-motivated, and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Familiarity with Management of Change (MOC) and the Process Safety Management (PSM) processes.

Working knowledge of applicable codes, government regulations, and industry standards pertaining to instrumentation and control systems such as NFPA, NEC, ISA, and API.
