The Senior Electrical Engineer manages the performance of the overall Electrical System (overhead power lines and facility electrical equipment) in the Permian field, supporting increased production, minimal downtime, and Goal Zero HSE performance.

The Senior Electrical Engineer is primarily responsible for:

Surveillance

Managing the state of the electrical/power system through instrument data (e.g. PI trends and or SCADA), Specialized Power Software (SKM), relationships with field electrical supervisors/technicians, and direct observation in the field.

Maintaining awareness of the business context for the field, with particular emphasis on related costs and value drivers.

Maintaining an awareness of the state of electrical equipment through the Manage Equipment Care (MEC) process.

Enforcing the use of the Power Request Process to control the addition of loads to the electrical system.

Troubleshooting

Understanding the root causes of electrical equipment and system failures.

Actively using the MTO (Manage Threats and Opportunities) process to reactively and proactively address electrical issues in the field.

Proposing and justifying solutions for electrical failures, then executing or overseeing execution (typically by the small projects team) of those solutions.

Optimization

Understanding the limits of the electrical System and where current performance is in relation to those limits, and make recommendations accordingly.

Maintaining a close relationship with utility companies (ONCOR, TNMP, TXU) to address power issues, expansions and utility reliability aspects.

Proposing and justifying electrical projects/improvements to safely add value through increased electrical reliability, or reduced costs, then executing or overseeing execution (typically by the small projects team) of those projects.

Process Safety

Ensuring that the MOC process is rigorously followed for all changes in the field.

Maintaining ownership of critical documents (primarily One Line Diagrams, Area Classification Drawings, Power System Capacity (Load Flow, Voltage Drop), Arc Flash and Protection Coordination studies).

Supporting and leading HSE investigations as required.

In all areas, application of Continuous Improvement / Lean practices is required to systematically reduce cost, increase production & Reliability, and improve safety. This includes documenting, sharing, and adopting lessons learned and best practices within the asset, across UPU, and externally.

Dimensions:

Primary Electrical Engineering focal point for all electrical issues for the asset.

Regular (1+ days/week) presence in the Permian field (rather than the Midland office). Due to the area extent of the field, extensive driving is required, including on unpaved roads. A Shell-provided pool truck will be available for field use and defensive driving training is mandatory.

Interaction with all levels of the organization, including operators, electricians, field leadership, asset leadership, development teams, Regulatory, Land, Contract & Procurement teams, Engineering TAs, and project delivery staff.

The Senior Electrical Engineer is expected to provide coaching and electrical competency development for other members of the technical team and field staff.

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Senior Electrical Engineer is expected to have close interactions and intermittent support to PACO and Rotating Equipment disciplines, as required.

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.

At least five (5) years experience in the field and electrical operations including overhead power lines.

Knowledge level competency demonstrated for Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) techniques and methods

Ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams that could include operations, leadership, finance, Engineering, regulatory, and others.

Change Management skills, including awareness level understanding of the Management of Change (MOC) process.

Demonstrated ability to effectively exercise independent judgment and initiative.
