Job DescriptionThe Quality Assurance Manager is ultimately responsible for managing all aspects of quality and product safety in conjunction with department superintendents and managers. This position is responsible for Quality Control, including all chemical analysis and quality control testing for masa products at the Muleshoe production facility. Responsible for process control and quality control analysis of samples produced to assure maintenance of consistent quality standards. Will apply American Association of Cereal Chemists or other nationally approved methods, such as all classical wet methodology as well as Near Infrared, to perform chemical analysis on representative product samples to insure product integrity. Will oversee budgeting, record keeping and the activities of the laboratory technicians and other professionally trained personnel charged with gathering and preparing product samples for testing.This position requires good leadership skills, which will be in large part, demonstrated by good organization, coordination and communication skills. It cannot be stressed enough how important accurate, consistent and thorough communication is to this position and every position at Bunge. The Quality Assurance Manager must possess strong communication skills to foster and sustain excellent relations with subordinates, other shifts, peers and co-workers. Promoting and sustaining an accident free and productive work environment is paramount to the successful management of the day to day operations of the facility.Core Functions:Leadership: Demonstrate the following core values and guiding behaviors which are expected of all managers and supervisors at Bunge North America:Integrity, Openness and Trust, Teamwork, Commitment, Entrepreneurship and Farmer/ Customer Focus.Safety: Develop, promote and enforce safety in the workplace by actively demanding employees to work safely by setting and personally demonstrating safe work habits.Customers: Communicate with product customers as needed to develop products to meet their expectation.Lead customer inspection tours and address concerns if any.Security: Responsible to continue to develop and improve security of facility property including access, food safety, seals and product safety.Develop and maintain system for tracking inbound/outbound products and raw materials.Maintain system for tracking inbound truck/rail to prevent Bunge product from being placed in trucks/railcars, which are insanitary and not suitable for human food transport.Participate with others to develop and maintain initiative to protect Bunge products (for human and animal consumption) from contamination and terrorism.Responsible for all aspects of quality analysis:Develop and improve quality control analysis of all masa products by utilizing industry accepted lab methods.Maintain product quality standards by constant analysis of raw product, which readily fluctuates.Provide input to Operating Managers for operational changes to adjust to the ever-fluctuating corn and masa product quality.Responsible for maintaining and improving documentation processes for quality control and procedures.Employee training, development and discipline:Develop and maintain an open line of communication with employees by demonstrating credibility, willingness to listen, by taking action when appropriate and responding to all concerns.Conduct individual safety training, new technician orientation, employee training and lab procedures, reviews and updates.Conduct and direct group training as well as individual employee training on procedures, safety, and quality analysis.Work effectively through others to achieve positive, consistent and continually improving results in each area.Lead by example and willing to step in and perform analysis in times of need.Overall operations knowledge: By working to understand all aspects of production at this facility (corn handling and masa production) the Quality Assurance Manager will demonstrate the requirement for cooperation and teamwork.Develop and maintain the HACCP/Food Safety and Food Defense programs in accordance with the FSMA regulations and Bunge standards:Proactively approach housekeeping and maintenance issues with haste to meet and exceed HACCP and SQF standards.Lead HACCP and SQF inspection certifications.Develop and maintain documentation standards.Effective communication with department Managers, Superintendents, Facility Coordinators, Commercial Manager to ensure consistent and effective communication.Demonstrate cost conscious and quality conscious decision making.Manage lab staffing as needed to meet fluctuating demands and coverage needs.Interface with Plant Manager, Maintenance Manager and plant scheduler daily to communicate and address quality fluctuations.The Quality Assurance Manager will also perform other duties as assigned and recognize that priorities can and will likely shift quickly to adjust to the demands of other departments for the overall benefit of the organization.RequirementsBachelor-s degree in Biology/Chemistry or related scientific field preferred.2-5 years of supervisory/management experience is required.2-5 years of experience working in the grain processing industry required, corn masa or corn milling preferred:Knowledge of grain handling, storage and processing.Grain processing knowledge to include grain cleaning, grinding, sifting and packaging.Experience implementing and maintaining quality certifications such as SQF, HACCP and GMP-s.High energy and positive attitude is a must.Proficiency with basic computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word and other technical software packages, as neededLanguage Requirements: Bilingual in Spanish preferredWhy Kelly ® ?As a worker today, it’s up to you to take charge of your career and look for opportunities to learn, grow, and achieve your potential.
