Today more than 14,000 Johnson Matthey professionals collaborate with our network of customers and partners to make a real difference to the world around us.The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, training and monitoring of environmental, health and safety policies in accordance with Johnson Matthey and Tracerco Corporate Company policies and objectives for the Tracerco North America business. The job holder will provide technical expertise and support necessary to ensure that EHS programs are executed in accordance with Federal, State and local regulations, as well as with Corporate, customer, third party and site policies, audits and programs. The job holder will participate in the Company’s internal as well as external audits, and will prepare technical reports as required to satisfy both regulatory and corporate requirements.The EHS Coordinator will be expected to direct and lead EHS improvement processes at all Tracerco North America sites (US and Canada). The job holder will be responsible for developing EHS programs and processes, including the engagement and alignment of employees at all levels of the site, that lead to injury and incident-free performance and a robust safety culture. The position also plays an active role with the regional management team and is expected to support all functions of the business.The ideal candidate is a self-starter capable of working independently with little supervision who possesses a strong organizational ability, attention to detail and can communicate and work well with all levels of the organization.Key Responsibilities

Provides information and maintains documentation for all North America regional EHS requirements:

Is knowledgeable of regulations pertaining to EHS policies and practices needed for each site and function within the business and ensures that each site’s EHS practices are compliant with state and federal requirements, including but not limited to EPA, DEP, and OSHA, etc.

Responsible for keeping up-to-date on EHS regulations, policies and procedures. Keeps current on environmental, health and safety regulations, codes and Johnson Matthey/Tracerco standards.

Provides guidance on EHS related issues as needed, which includes providing technical and procedural support to all departments to ensure compliance with all EHS regulations at the local, state, and federal level, as well as to develop EHS policies and procedures.

Develops and maintains data and information needed to manage all functions where the position has responsibilities by keeping documentation up-to-date and continuously seeking methods to improve programs.

Ensures all North America regional sites comply with EHS Policies, Procedures and Manuals:

Keeps current on legislative changes that may apply to the company and report findings to line manager and corporate EHS.

Responsible for regional EHS compliance reporting.

Leads the development and implementation of EHS programs as new regulations are enacted.

Works with other departments and onsite contractors to achieve regulatory compliance and safety targets.

Complies with all EHS related quality, internal and external, requirements.

Coordinates US and Canada site regulatory inspections and internal and external audits as required:

Conducts regular inspections of safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, safety showers, daily forklift inspections, ladders, etc.).

Liaises with internal and external auditors ensuring compliance with internal and external EHS programs and regulations.

Performs periodic walk-through of sites and develops and directs internal auditing processes designed to identify and correct deficiencies for all applicable functions where the position has designated responsibilities, which includes auditing operations, technical/technological, commercial and administrative areas of the organization to verify continual regulatory compliance.

Leads efforts related to audit readiness and ensuring appropriate staff are available to participate in audits with internal Company groups, regulatory agencies, and customers.

Documents audit findings and establishes corrective action plans, implements promptly, and verifies during subsequent audits.

Provides leadership for EHS risk assessments including safety risk reduction efforts and incident investigations:

Develops controls for identified hazards.

Coordinates the implementation of controls from results of hazard analysis.

Measures and evaluates the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate work place accidents and injuries.

Collects and analyze data that measures EHS performance and progress towards meeting established EHS goals.

Conducts investigations of incidents and non-compliance matters as required.

Investigates and co-ordinates corrective action for all, lost time, medical aid and learning events within required time limits, files reports on appropriate systems and follows up to ensure satisfactory remedial action is implemented.

Leads root cause investigations on near misses and all incidents to ensure corrective action takes place and compliance with Company policies and procedures, and all state and federal regulations as needed.

Monitors Learning Events and follows up on corrective actions.

Creates EHS Improvement Plan and monitor actions to ensure sites achieve deliverables by target dates.

Develops and delivers all EHS Training programs as required:

Implement site training programs in the areas of EHS to ensure all staff receive the necessary and required training pertaining to EHS risks in the workplace (including field work).

Establishes a safety-training curriculum working with management.

Develops H&S training materials, provides training or arranges for the delivery of training for all functions where the position has designated responsibilities.

Conducts new employee EHS orientation, ensuring that new employees receive EHS training on a timely basis.

Promotes Safe Work practices and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

Evaluates PPE requirements to ensure safety of employees and compliance with all OSHA standards, and independently audits employee practices to ensure compliance with recommended practices.

Administers the site’s PPE program, managing the distribution of safety shoes and prescription safety glasses and ensure compliance.

Ensures First Aid facilities are maintained to a high standard and that a sufficient number of employees are current in their First Aid training.

Acts as EHS employer representative and as such participates in all other workplace related duties:

Compiles data and issues inspection reports to appropriate individuals or entities.

Acts as regional/site incident commander and liaison with outside emergency services.

Acts as regional/site security representative.

Acts as regional/site fire prevention and control representative.

Serves on EHS committees and teams as needed.

Responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of emergency response plans, drills and table top exercises.

Acts as EHS liaison between workforce and management

Reports progress and problems to management in a timely fashion.

Develops procedures and forms needed to manage all functions where the position has designated leadership responsibilities.

Are you the ideal candidate?Education, Experience and Skills:

Professional attitude and strong ethics a must.

3 -5 years of experience in environmental, health & safety positions.

Experience in the petrochemical, chemical manufacturing, refineries or related industry.

Experience as a Safety lead or in an independent type of role is highly desirable.

Experience with implementing procedures and training. Experience in establishing integrated plans with resource and task constraints.

Formal Project Management training is desireable.

Educational background in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental or Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Sciences or related field.

Certification as a Safety, Health & Environmental Professional (SHEP) a plus.

Advanced knowledge of federal, state, and local EH&S regulations.

Familiarity with environmental permitting.

Experience with EHS compliance organizations such as PICs & ISNetworld is desired.

Experience with radiation protection is a plus.

Solid IT literacy skills, specifically with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).

Strong numeracy skills; capable of creating spreadsheets; tracking and compiling data and creating reports.

Must possess strong communication skills. Able to conduct effective presentations (including monthly safety meetings and training presentations) to management and staff alike.

Must possess strong leadership skills. Self-motivated individual. Must exhibit a proactive attitude and be able to work independently in a highly efficient manner.

Must have excellent organizational and time management skills. Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. High sense of accountability and urgency. Resolves issues effectively and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion.

Must possess excellent interpersonal skills. Individual must be able to build strong relationships across diverse groups and participate effectively on cross-functional teams. Motivates cross-functional team to work together in the most efficient manner.

Must be prepared to travel throughout the USA and Canada. Up to 25% travel requirement estimated.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Occasional walking, standing for long periods of time, kneeling, and crouching while in labs/plant, reaching, handling, fingering, twisting, and bending spine at waist when filing or operating office/ lab equipment.

May be exposed to odors, noise, heat, cold, wetness, moving mechanical parts, and toxic or caustic chemicals when conducting investigations and/or audits.

May be required to respond to emergencies during normal business and off hours.

May be required to be on-call during off hours.

Moderate travel may be necessary for technical meetings, customer visits, supplier contacts, and Federal, state, and local EH&S official visits.

Will be required to travel in line with the needs of the business.
