Lead development for an industry leader

At CarMax, we want to disrupt our industry by empowering customers to buy a car on their own terms. As Lead Software Developer you will be at the forefront of this process, setting the vision for digital product development, and taking a holistic view of software quality and architecture. Bringing together business and technical experts to create better experiences for our customers, you will combine hands-on development with monitoring and mentoring your team to ensure they work at their peak. Overall, you will have a direct impact on improving the performance of our business and ensuring customers can buy the vehicles they want in a way that's right for them.

What you will do - Essential responsibilities
  • Facilitate discussions between developers and business partners to create innovative experiences for our customers
  • Guide and mentor a team focused on a specific product and its associated software, working closely with specialists including a product manager, UX expert and analyst
  • Lead technical execution within an agile environment including discovery, design, development and testing
  • Stay on top of industry trends and best practice to continuously improve what we do and ensure our customer experience is the best it can be

Creative, curious and highly analytical, you will set the pace for a team that never stops learning and thrives on constant change in the digital marketplace.

Qualifications and requirements
  • At least eight years of application development experience
  • Expertise in Microsoft.NET (C#), JavaScript (ES6/ES7), CSS best practices, RESTful API services, and SQL Server
  • Entity Framework
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure, CI/CD pipelines, search technology and React, Angular or Vue.js is preferred
  • A degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
  • Mentor and develop others
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based in the Plano, TX CarMax Technology Innovation Center and have a Hybrid work arrangement.
  • On-call rotation may be required
