Duties include the installation and/or repair of electrical, generating and power distribution equipment and instrumentation at the Port Arthur Site. Works with shift and maintenance coordinators, shift supervisors, operating technicians, instrument/electrical technicians, and maintenance technicians to accomplish and document routine and non-routine maintenance work including preventative maintenance, regulatory inspections, and assists in the installation/inspection of work related to capital projects. Provide switching of distribution equipment throughout the site Inspect, monitor, maintain, install, troubleshoot, document and repair electrical distribution equipment rated to 34,500 volts. Types of equipment include facility generators (simple cycle cogeneration) and associated instrumentation and controls, power distribution and associated substation equipment, plant power management system(s), industrial motor control systems, plant lighting systems, transformers, automatic transfer switches, uninterruptible power systems, programmable logic controllers, and process control systems. Exercise initiative and judgment in planning and organizing electrical work, completing the work in a safe and organized manner, and assuring the work is in accordance with the National Electrical Code, API standards, and BASF standards. Must demonstrate competency in and be willing to perform in a multi-craft environment. Adhere to high standards of productivity, quality, teamwork, housekeeping, and safety. Track and update assigned tasks in maintenance management system on a regular basis. Receive and act upon Shift Coordinator’s instructions. Notify coordinator of status of daily, weekly, and monthly routine tasks at the end of each day. Communicate to Shift Coordinator and/or Senior Electrical Engineer any deficiencies in equipment and make recommendations for corrective actions and improvements. Document all routine Preventative Maintenance Tasks, inspections and repairs. Document all non-routine tasks. Eliminate/reduce repetitive equipment problems through tracking failures and recommending changes. Maintain supplies in instrument/electrical shop. As assigned, assist operating and other technicians in tasks that require more than one person. May be required to work with waste that is deemed to be hazardous by RCRA or other regulation. Will be required to be available for maintenance on-call and scheduled overtime. Comply with all company policies, safety standards and good housekeeping practices. Must have correctable vision. Depth perception and peripheral sight necessary. Must have color vision to distinguish colors. Must be able to hear and conduct telephone conversations. Must be able to properly wear full face and half mask respirators and self-contained breathing apparatuses. Must be able to smell and recognize differences in intensity or quality to detect gas or chemical odors indicating leaks and their location. Must be able to walk, crawl into holes, climb ladders and stairs, hills and levees. Good oral and written communication skills. Good personal computer skills and knowledge. Demonstrated math, reading and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
