JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Serve as the lead technical resource to both hourly and salaried employees on instrumentation issues pertaining to process control, instrumentation, analyzers, instrument systems, and analyzer systems, to help ensure that Safety, Production, Maintenance, and Reliability goals are met.Reduce maintenance costs, improve safety, and maximize production by identifying and eliminating bad actor instrument installationsProvide troubleshooting and repair assistance to Total and contract Instrument TechniciansMonitor and revise instrument equipment repair procedures that are not best in practiceEvaluate new instrumentation equipment and technologies to help improve refinery operationsInvestigate equipment failures and issue change recommendations to eliminate further occurrencesImplement instrumentation improvement projects less than $25,000Support Facilities Development and Tech Service departments with the development, specification, and implementation of new instrumentation installationsMonitor new instrument installations to ensure Total Engineering Standards (PARES) are being adhered toDevelop and issue installed cost estimates for instrument improvement projects so that equipment owners can make informed decisionsDevelop and issue Management of Change documentation required to satisfy OSHA PSM 29-CFR-1910Ensure that refinery quality and safety initiatives are carried out in daily activitiesJOB PURPOSE:Provide instrumentation technical support and expertise for the process operations, maintenance and capital groups in an effort to maintain reliable instrumentation for the refinery. Serve as the supervisor for the instrument engineers and the instrument specialists, both company and contract personnel, for the refinery. Serve as the instrumentation subject matter expert on technical projects. Oversee the INtools instrument data base activities.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:BS Degree in Electrical Engineering, with a minimum of 5 years experience with instrumentation within an industrial complex; or, applicable technical Associates degree, with a minimum of 15 years relevant experience in a petrochemical facilityFamiliar with ISA standardsGood oral and written communication, computer, trouble shooting, interpersonal skills required Ability to lead by example, logical problem solving skills, works well in teams, able to manage multiple/changing prioritiesOn call 24/7, prompt response is paramount in ensuring any electrical anomaly be handled with urgencyExtended work hours/schedules sometimes required during turn-around or project activitiesKnowledge and experience in ISA standards, the NEC, and OSHA 1910 standards as they apply to electrical equipment and safe work practices Experience in the application of HART protocol, control valve sizing, orifice calculation using INtools, transmitter selection and set-up.
