Responsibilities

State Farm's Shopping Journey suite is in need of an experienced full stack Software Developer interested in being a part of an exciting effort to modernize and make delightful its Renters quoting experience for both Customer and Sales Associate (SA) channels. Expectations are high. We need someone who can effectively operate in a dynamic and collaborative environment, understand the customer experience, co-create solutions with XD design teams, ensure alignment with P&C UX target state structure, and continue to adopt the P&C Auto/Fire API Strategy.

We are looking for a Software Developer who demonstrates commitment and passion for delivering an outstanding customer experience, leveraging Angular and a modern API strategy. Product management and ownership are important to us. You will be joining a team in which collaborative self-directed individuals thrive. This developer will be responsible for designing and implementing complex solutions including functional requirements, coding, support and agile team principles and leadership. This opportunity requires deep application development skills, writing and collaboration, and strong communication skills.

  • Possesses an understanding of how technology solutions meet the business outcomes and offers a range of solutions for business partners; understand business current and aspirational needs
  • Participates in sprint planning; provides work estimates to deliver product stories; owns development stories
  • Develops solutions on variety of platforms according to business requirements
  • Completes requierd coding to satisfy the defined acceptance criteria and deliver desired outcome
  • Leads solution design, considering risks, mitigations, performance, user experience, and testability
  • Assists in development of automated testing and supporting code as necessary
  • Completes required documentation to communicate information to deployment, maintenance, and business teams
  • Utilizes agile software development practices, data and testing standards, code reviews, source code management, continous delivery, and software architecture
  • Participates in the full software development cycle including coding, testing, implementation, support and sunset
  • Designs, develops, tests and supports software in support of big data objectives
  • Possesses an understanding of User Experience practices to improve usuability and interaction between the cusotmer and product
  • Adopts service Design, where appropriate, through architecture modularity to enable continuous delivery
  • Considers applying emerging technology solutions to increase efficiency and effectiveness; expectation of continuous innovation
  • Resolves problems that result in a decreased time to market; improves quality, enhances flexibility, and embraces the solutions
  • Provides input into overall testing plan; contributes to test approach and scenarios for requirement
  • Provides product and/or process expertise necessary to support design, development, testing and execution of solutions
  • Exhibits DevOps mindset where team is accountable for product from inception to sunset

  • Job may require travel via commercial transportations
  • Job may require irregular work hours and travel outside normal business hours

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Experience developing RESTful web services
  • Experience building a single-page application with Angular, or similar libraries such as React, Ember or Vue
  • Experience with Java and Spring, or similar languages and frameworks
  • Experience increasing quality by applying various development and test practices (ex. unit test coverage, automated acceptance tests)
  • Experience building and using CI/CD pipelines, leveraging tools like GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins and Docker
  • Experience with Git version control
  • Must be self-motivated and a team player
  • P&C and/or Fire experience preferred
