Looking for a Protestant Worship Leader to lead a contemporary style of music for Contemporary Worship Service at Goodfellow Air Force Base. Must have experience leading a vibrant band, Praise Team, and congregation in songs vocally and instrumentally while playing a guitar or keyboard. Practices are on Saturday & Sunday mornings at 10 AM and Sunday service is at 11:00 AM. The Saturday practice time can be flexible but keep in mind that many band members are students. This is a paid position and starts as soon as possible.
Scope of Responsibilities
The Protestant Worship Leader will, in coordination with the Designated Chaplain, have overall responsibility for leading a contemporary style of music for the Contemporary Worship Service.
Education, and Experience
Possess a minimum of three (3) years experience as a praise and worship leader in a contemporary-style Protestant worship setting leading a vibrant band, Praise Team, and congregation in songs vocally and instrumentally while playing a guitar or keyboard.
Be at least 18 years of age and able to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
Must be able to play an instrument associated with typical Protestant style worship, such as a piano/keyboard or stringed instrument.
Have working knowledge of audio-visual equipment such as sound systems and projectors. Be capable of leading the person assigned to audio-visual equipment.
Provide one reference from supervisor of last position, a resume, and one clergy reference.
Personal Requirement
The Protestant Worship Leader must:
Have the ability to read and understand music to include vocal chords, notes and keys and/or to effectively play by ear, and have knowledge of vocal harmony and able to provide accompaniment for Praise Team members and solo vocalists as needed.
Have a strong theological grasp of the Protestant faith, and have openness to a wide variety of faith expressions within the Protestant community. Also, be able to demonstrate the ability to clearly express the details of basic Christian doctrine.
Must be committed to Christ-Centered Worship, sound doctrine, prayer, disciple making, genuine fellowship, and be able to help people connect and engage with God through worship.
Be able to serve as a hospitable worship enabler who enables the entire gathered community to participate in the worship service. Being a hospitable enabler involves giving directions regarding the flow of worship, modeling the attitudes that are appropriate for worship, and pointing beyond the mechanics to the meaning and purpose of worship.
Be able to use spoken transitions to guide the congregation on their journey through the worship service. The transitions should link the parts of the service by showing how the acts of worship are related.
Must understand song placement and purpose and take into account how and when the song is being used in the service.
Be able to use spoken song introductions. A song introduction should explain a songs purpose using a sort and concise statement of information and purpose. Spoken introductions should not be chatty.
Be able to resolve interpersonal conflicts and promote constructive working relations through positive interactions.
Be able to conduct worship practices, select music, and stay current with music CCLI (Christian Copyright Licensing International) licenses posted on worship music (both printed and digitally displayed).
General Responsibilities
The Protestant Worship Leader will:
In coordination with the chaplain-in-charge of the Protestant service, manage the Protestant services music programs and lead worship.
Oversee volunteer musicians/singers forming a worship team with members who share a heartfelt enjoyment of worship, and who dedicate their time and talents to leading the congregation in meaningful worship with integrity, genuine emotion, creativity, and musical excellence. All volunteers must be approved by the Designated Chaplain.
Coordinate with the Designated Chaplain for approval of song selections and special music for the Contemporary Worship Service. Be able to select song lyrics that are theologically Protestant. Hymns in themselves are neither traditional nor contemporary. It is how they are presented that makes them contemporary. The term contemporary music is used in the context of musical instrumentation and orchestration.
Prepare any needed music slides for projection of song lyrics during each worship service and provide them no later than 72 hours prior to the worship service.
Maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed professional appearance. In consultation with Protestant Chaplain, a minimum of (Casual) business attire is required when performing worship services and duties, especially on Sundays, holidays, and Holy Days.
Be willing to work within a community of interfaith expressions, supporting a religiously pluralistic environment. Recognize the final authority in Protestant worship format, to include musical selection, rests with the designated Protestant chaplain.
Perform 52 weekly worship services, 52 weekly rehearsals, and 7 special rehearsals and 7 special performances. Rehearsals, services, and special performances will not exceed 2 hours in duration per occurrence.
Must be able to pass background check from NOIC, Religious Affairs according to Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 1402.5.
Specific Responsibilities
The Protestant Worship Leader will:
Maintain a volunteer base for active worship team/leadership and audio/visual technician. Ensuring worship has instrumental accompaniment, vocals to lead congregation, and the technology to support the worship.
Advise the music director and/or musicians on tone, tempo, rhythm, melody and harmony including which instruments are lead and support in order to produce the appropriate contemporary sound.
