Located in San Antonio, The Pineapple School is a child development center and preschool that provides Spanish language and cultural immersion for children six weeks to five years of age.

We currently have an immediate opening for an afternoon Teacher Assistant (1:30pm to 6:15pm Monday thru Friday) at our North Central campus (12222 Huebner Rd. 78230) and at our Stone Oak campus (20615 Huebner Rd.).

Minimum requirements:

- Fluent in Spanish, verbally and written; Proficient in English

- High school diploma or equivalent; pursuing a CDA or Bachelor's in Education a plus

- At least one year of experience in a classroom of young children

- Raised in or otherwise have extensive experience living in a Spanish speaking culture outside of the United States, typically either in Mexico and/or Central and South America

- Stability and professionalism

Responsibilities:

The teacher assistant is responsible for assisting the lead teacher with the daily educational activities in the classroom and outdoor play areas.

Duties will consist of:

- Interacting with children in the Spanish language, encouraging their development and exposing them to songs, finger plays, music and dance in Spanish;

- Conducting daily supervision of children's activities and conducting daily inspection of environment;

- Practicing developmentally appropriate techniques and assisting with implementing the lesson plans;

- Working together with the Lead Teacher to maintain an orderly and clean learning environment (this includes taking out the trash; proper sanitizing of tables, counters, bathrooms, and toys; and organizing drawers, cabinets and shelves);

- Assisting the children during snack and meal times, modeling polite manners

- Assisting children with personal hygiene, which may include diaper changing or cleaning a child and helping him/her to change clothes in the event of an accident;

- Utilizing Conscious Discipline strategies to promote cooperation, constructive problem solving and academic success in the classroom;

- Engaging children in a playful learning environment both indoors and outdoors (outdoor playtime consists of two scheduled 45-minute periods each day);

- Preparing crafts and activities for and participating in special events and celebrations such as Easter and Dia de los Muertos;

- Helping out in other parts of the school;

- Attending ongoing staff development activities, including our evening monthly staff meeting, and maintaining required level of training hours (at present, 24 hours annually from start of employment, current CPR & First Aid certification, annual child abuse training; other requirements apply for caregivers with less than two years of experience in a licensed child care center in Texas) with documentation.

We are open from 7am to 6pm and are interested in individuals with flexible schedules. We are looking for people who truly enjoy and appreciate children less than 5 years of age and who have good verbal and written communication skills.
