Level II Engineer

Job Purpose:

To maintain public spaces and back of the house areas in good repair by performing various tasks related to a variety of trades including but not limited to: carpentry, plumbing, wall covering, and masonry to ensure an attractive and well-maintained hotel.

Job Responsibilities:

Inspects public spaces and back of the house areas to repair, replace light bulbs, lamps, switches, outlets, faucets, toilets, hardware, filters. Paint and touchup walls, wall covering, furniture.

Cleans a/c coils and drip pans in guestrooms and public areas. This requires the individual to visually inspect and detect items needing repair and requires a considerable knowledge of a wide variety of maintenance trades.

Basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry and mechanical experience is used frequently on the job. Performing these duties requires experience in using basic hand and power tools and the ability to stoop, kneel, grasp, lift, push and pull weights up to 500 lbs with wheeled assistance, climb ladders up to 30 feet high and reach in all directions, often times overhead.

Maintains inventory of supplies needed to perform job function.

Cleans and washes HVAC coil with solvents and cleaners.

On occasions will be required to clean grease traps.

Reports major repairs, and items which cannot be repaired, to the property operations assistant, and enter into the engineering logbook for further action, and if necessary place the room out of order.

Detailed record keeping in English is required for logs and inspection sheets. The individual will be required to lift and hold up materials weighing up to 80 lbs, and have finger dexterity to manipulate switches, operate fine hand tools, adjust and maintain equipment.

Works in small confined areas, which could require the use of dust masks and or respirators when working with paints, chemicals or solvents.

Assist with request to shut off steam, water, and gas lines.

Order and receive equipment and parts for needed repairs in kitchens, bars, and food & beverage related areas of the facility.

Job Skills:

Ability to listen, and communicate effectively.

Read, write, and speak English fluently. Ability to communicate in Spanish helpful.

Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system.

Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations.

Ability to push/pull cart/ table weighing up to 150 lbs.; grasp, lift to waist and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.

Knowledge of all maintenance trades, including basic electrical, plumbing, mechanical and carpentry.

Skill in use of computers and software programs associated with property operations.

Skilled in the proper and safe use of all tools, equipment, materials, chemicals, and products relating to the department.

Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and use a man lift to work at heights of up to 30 feet, often reaching above head.

Ability to perform duties in confined space and in awkward positions.

Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, walking, and standing for an extended period of time.

Ability to stand, walk, and continuously perform essential job functions for an extended period of time.

Ability to hear a change in pitch of high-speed mechanical equipment.

Ability to remain calm in emergency situations and to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger, collect accurate information, and solve customer concerns.

Basic mechanical aptitude for operation and repair of hotel equipment.

Ability to move and work throughout the hotel for the duration of the shift.

Ability to deal with number of problems requiring initiative and good judgment.

Qualifications Standards

Education:

High school graduate or equivalent preferred.

Experience:

Prior experience preferred.

License/Certificates:

CPR Certification preferred.
