AmeriCorps - Communities In Schools of Central Texas (Hays County & Lockhart)

Texas, San marcos 00000 San marcos USA

Vacancy expired!

BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE!

Become an AmeriCorps member (National Service similar to the Peace Corps), and make a difference in your community! Mentor and tutor at-risk elementary and middle school students in Central Texas schools. The Communities In Schools of Central Texas AmeriCorps program is hiring full-time, 3/4 time, and part-time members to serve during the 2019 - 2020 program year.

Communities In Schools is a non-profit social work agency that works in Central Texas area public schools. CIS of CT AmeriCorps places members on elementary and middle school campuses in Travis County (Austin, Del Valle, and Manor), Hays County (Buda, Kyle and Niederwald), and Caldwell County (Lockhart) where they serve as supportive mentors and tutors to at-risk students.

We are seeking self-motivated, committed, responsible applicants with a genuine passion for working with at-risk youth. Experience with children in grades 3-8 preferable but not required. Bilingual applicants, military veterans, and individuals with disabilities are welcomed and encouraged to apply. We provide comprehensive training and support to members year-round.

PROGRAM DATES: September 3, 2019 - June 30, 2020. You must serve for the entire program length.

HOURS: Part-time members will serve an average of 24 hours per week. 3/4 time members will serve an average of 33 hours per week. Full-time members will serve an average of 45 hours per week. (Holidays, Winter and Spring Breaks are off). Hours will be served during the traditional school week (Monday - Friday) and between the traditional school day (7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.). A three or four day work week is possible for part-time and 3/4 time members as long as the hours requirement is met.

LIVING ALLOWANCE: Part-time members will earn $705.00/month. 3/4 time members will earn $987.00/month. Full-time members will earn $1,410.00/month. Note: all stated amounts are pre-tax.

SEGAL EDUCATION AWARD: Upon successful completion of service, part-time members receive $3,047.00; 3/4 time members receive $4,266.00; full-time members receive $6,095.00 to apply toward qualified student loans, educational expenses, or future schooling. The award is available for up to 7 years. If you are 55 or older, you may transfer your education award to a child, grandchild, or foster child. Some institutions match this education award, so if you plan to attend one of these institutions your award is twice as valuable. Here is a list of colleges and universities that match the award: http://www.nationalservice.gov/programs/americorps/segal-americorps-education-award/matching-institutions

STUDENT LOANS: You may place most existing federal student loans into forbearance while you serve (meaning you do not have to make payments on them).

INTEREST ACCRUAL: AmeriCorps will also pay off some or all of the interest accrued on qualified loans during your year of service (upon successful completion of your service year) for the loans placed into forbearance through AmeriCorps. Giving a term of service is like getting 10 interest-free months on your loans.

HEALTH INSURANCE: Full-time and 3/4 time members are eligible for a free healthcare plan.

NUTRITION BENEFITS: You may also qualify for SNAP nutrition benefits, which can be used to supplement or replace your food budget. Many AmeriCorps members use these funds to stretch their incomes farther.

ACCESS TO EMPLOYERS OF NATIONAL SERVICE: Employers of National Service connects AmeriCorps and Peace Corps alumni with employers from the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. Through this initiative, employers have increased access to a dedicated, highly qualified, and mission-oriented pool of potential employees, and national service alumni have additional opportunities to apply their skills in the workplace. Here is a list of current employers: https://www.nationalservice.gov/special-initiatives/employers-national-service/search-network

ACCESS TO NATIONWIDE AMERICORPS ALUMNI NETWORK: AmeriCorps Alums is dedicated to getting things done for AmeriCorps alums and members actively serving. The only national network that connects the nearly 1 million alumni of all AmeriCorps programs to the people, ideas, and resources that support our commitment to a lifetime of service. Network, find a job, find - and finance - a school of your choice, serve, and get benefits: http://www.americorpsalums.org/?WhyJoin

Professional Level

Everyone has different financial needs, and only you can decide whether the compensation and benefits will work for you. Ultimately the decision to serve is not an economic one. You already understand that what drives people to serve is intangible. It is their desire to share knowledge, be a role model, reach into communities and create something genuinely good. If you are dedicated to making a direct impact on children's futures, be sure to also consider all the tangible benefits that AmeriCorps offers.

HOW TO APPLY: Please visit: http://ciscentraltexas.org/get-involved/americorps/application-form/

to complete and submit the online application. We DO NOT accept resumes and cover letters for these positions.

CIS of CT AmeriCorps is an equal opportunity national service program. All applicants are considered without discrimination based on race, color, age, religion, national origin, veteran status, sexual orientation, disability, or sex.
