The position will be available Summer 2020, with review of applications beginning immediately.The mission of UTSD is “to improve human health by providing high-quality education, patient care, service and research in oral health for Texas, the nation and the world “.Position Key Accountabilities:As an integral part of the UTSD leadership team, the Associate Dean for Research will promote this mission by:-providing oversight, prioritization, and management of UTSD research programs and resources;-growing the basic, clinical, translational and educational research portfolios of UTSD;-facilitating collaborative research and scholarly activities with the UTSD, UTHealth and TMC communities;-ensuring UTSD remains current in research trends and applications;-providing direction, integration and support of student research programs;-providing oversight and promoting research events, such as the annual UTSD Research Showcase and IADR/AADR reception;-representing UTSD on the UTHealth Research Council and related university organizations;-representing the Office of Research to internal and external academic communities, alumni, business and industry, government, foundations, patient and practitioner groups, and the general community;-liaising with Department Chairs and the Associate Dean for Professional Development and Faculty Affairs concerning faculty development; and,-cultivating an environment of inclusion and respect for students, faculty and staff.Qualifications:-DDS/DMD and/or PhD (or equivalent degree);-current rank of Associate or full Professor;-record of a sustained externally funded health-related research program as measured by previous and current grants and peer-reviewed publications;-minimum of 5 years administrative supervisory experience;-evidence of leadership in collaborative research at multiple levels, including collegiate, university, national and/or international;-academic and scientific experience in research mentoring of faculty and students;-effective communication skills; and,-demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. .
