Job Summary: The Shop Foreman is responsible for all aspects of daily truck shop operations including, but not limited to, the following expectations of the role:
Maximizes fleet efficiencies through proper planning and execution with emphasis on maintaining a safe work environment and regulatory compliance
Provides leadership and furthers development of all shop employees, to include accountability and appropriate recognition and encouragement
Maintains a positive relationship with all CKJ support staff - Safety, Maintenance, Operations, Payroll, IT, etc.
Supports and communicates with the Terminal Manager as an internal customer
Hires, trains, coaches and counsels the company’s shop personnel
Ensures timely and quality completion of all maintenance and repair work – maintains PM compliance
Completes all internal reporting and administrative functions accurately and on time as required
Optimize parts inventories ensuring availability while minimizing holding costs
Facilitates and conduct safety meetings with shop staff – attend all Driver safety meetings
Coordinates emergency road service. Determine most timely and cost-effective plan to handle each, whether internally or outsourced, keeping the Driver’s safety and inconvenience in mind
On-call availability 24 hours a day to include accident response
Demonstrates good judgement prioritizing maintenance and repair work, including whether to outsource, while balancing costs against equipment up-time
Visit job sites occasionally to assess equipment wear-and-tear factors and recommend preventive best practices
Interacts with Terminal Manager and Drivers to receive and provide feedback - leads continuous improvement
Maintain a positive, supportive relationship with CKJ Drivers, encourage constant constructive communication
Other duties as assigned, or recognized on a proactive basis Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
5+ years proven experience as a heavy-duty truck shop Technician
2+ years of transportation supervisory / management experience
Technical certifications necessary to meet all regulatory and OEM requirements for Class 8 truck maintenance
Ideal candidate will be experienced in tractor-trailer dry bulk / aggregate / dry concrete operations
Proficient computer skills including MS Office and be comfortable adapting to CKJ systems
Knowledge of State & Federal DOT regulations related to equipment compliance
Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, exercises good judgement on a consistent basis
Consistently demonstrates leadership, professionalism and appropriate discretion in all HR issues
Able to work well under pressure with excellent time management skills
Must have a people-first management style. Ability to encourage, coach and develop a successful team.
Flexible in hours and days worked as needed
