Job Summary:The Lead Mechanical Designer, internally titled Mechanical Design Coordinator, will function as a Senior Designer and group Lead in the EPC Mechanical Department. This person must have experience in the Oil and Gas Industry, with the ability to function as a subject matter expert/technical champion for small to large capital projects.The Lead Mechanical Designer will be required to interact with all Mechanical Engineers and Designers to ensure consistency and timeliness for all project deliverables. This position will be required to work directly with Engineering Supervision as well as Directors on weekly progress sheets and project trackers to ensure all design deliverables are progressing. Primary Job Functions:
Understand and interpret codes and specifications related to design requirements.
Manage other designers/drafters in the mechanical department by guiding the generation and maintenance of standard processes and procedures pertaining to mechanical drafting/design.
Manage project design schedules.
Work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers and Designers) in a team environment to resolve design/drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.
Verify accuracy and completeness of all deliverable products and services in assigned areas of responsibility. In this role the Design Coordinator will facilitate mechanical designs for all projects, which will enable coordination and consistency.
Assist in administration, training others on AutoCAD and/or CADworx including setting up specifications and creating complete mechanical packages.
Answer questions from Client and/or construction groups on design for assigned project.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director as needed.
Experience:
5+ years of experience (or Associates Degree & 4 years of experience) in Oil and Gas, creating mechanical drafting/design drawings preferably in Meter Stations, Pump Stations, Launcher/Receivers, Main Line Valves, Compression Stations and As-builts. An advanced understanding of AutoCAD and/or CADworx is required.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Education/Training:
5 - 8 years of experience (or Associates Degree & 4 years of experience) in facilities creating mechanical drafting/design drawings preferably in Meter Stations, Pump Stations, Launcher/Receivers, Main Line Valves, Compression Stations and As-builts.
Competencies:
Managerial experience, with the ability to lead personnel on a day to day basis, conduct employee reviews, and track daily, weekly and monthly progress for reporting purposes.
Must be able to create and modify drawings using nationally recognized standards, client supplied specifications, and Strike drafting standards:

Should have a strong working knowledge of the following:
ASME piping codes
Elevation and coordinate systems, both plant and world
Pipelines, meter stations, compressor stations and pump stations
Pigging and purging
Civil structural requirements for pipe and equipment support
Pipe and equipment installation
Process instrumentation use and installation
Drawing controls, and creating transmittals for electronic and hard copies of drawing packages
Field survey of existing pipe and equipment
Pipe stress analysis and vessel code analysis
Hydrostatic Testing
Cathodic protection
The ability and skill level to organize, delegate and oversee a team of designers and draftsman to complete a project from start to finish.
Ability to coordinate with other disciplines, such as Electrical and Civil Engineering and Design.
Understand the scope and limits of responsibility between various engineering disciplines and project support groups.
The candidate must exhibit the ability to work well in a team environment to complete tasks associated with a common goal or project.
Displays strong written and oral communication skills and employs effective listening skills.
Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the electrical engineering field.
Utilizes exceptional multi-tasking and organizational skills with excellent attention to detail and emphasis on quality
Accuracy, timeliness, tact, self-starter, problem-solving skills, and ability to work effectively with both employees and managers

Other Criteria:
Ability to work flexible hours, occasionally in excess of a normal schedule
Must be willing to travel to project sites to collect field data
Must be willing to travel to project sites to perform field inspections
May be required to be out of town for multiple days at a time.
