Mechanical Controls Engineer is a member of the Systems and Controls Engineering Team and responsible for developing control systems and algorithms for implementation into Residential HVAC products. This role will have the responsibilities detailed below and work as part of the team to achieve the organization's overall goals.

Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):
  • Work with product development teams, control system engineering, and advanced engineering to develop control systems and algorithms. Includes:
    • Problem definition and scoping
    • System modeling using tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow
    • Feedback control development and associated algorithms
    • Simulation of proposed control systems
    • Rapid prototyping and model in the loop testing
    • Hardware in the loop simulation
  • Requirements development and documentation for the control system and algorithms.
  • Performing Failure Modes and Effects Analyses of algorithms.
  • Develop design guidelines and standards for documentation and communication of control system algorithms.
  • Work with reliability engineering to develop standard reliability test plans around control systems and algorithms.
  • Work with enterprise modeling teams to enhance simulation capabilities.
  • Work with testing lab to order/build automated test setups in support of controls system and algorithm development.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and at least 5 years experience with mechanical or feedback control applications is required.
  • Master's Degree in Engineering is a plus.

Key Competencies:
  • Thorough thermal systems knowledge (thermodynamics, psychometrics, fluids, heat transfer).
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical control system theory.
  • Experience with development tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow.
  • Familiarity with model-based design.
  • Control system flowcharting, state diagram creation, and algorithm development.
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering principles and ability to apply to real-world problems.
  • Experience with automated test development and execution.
  • Ability to create design guidelines and standards.
  • Problem assessment and problem solving skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Works effectively in an open consensus-oriented team environment.
  • Conflict management skills.
  • Results-oriented individual with an emphasis placed on achieving overall team performance.
  • Familiarity with PC based Windows programs (Excel, Word, Access, etc.).
