Controls Engineer The OpportunityThe Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, configuration, integration and implementation of manufacturing process control systems. This includes identifying and leading process changes and projects to accommodate new models or products and to improve the operational efficiency of manufacturing equipment. Skilled, hands-on problem solving is mixed with software programing and development of various types of controls components. The Controls Engineer also works directly with the production engineering and maintenance teams to provide enhanced troubleshooting and controls software support along with root cause identification and elimination of manufacturing equipment downtime issues.May include;
Design and install manufacturing process control systems and automation.
Troubleshoot and program various PLC, HMI, VFD and servo programs for several different applications.
Diagnose issues with plant Ethernet, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT and DeviceNet communication networks.
Provide effective controls support to resolve manufacturing equipment failures, faults and runtime issues in a timely manner to minimize downtime and lost production.
Identify root causes of equipment issues and develop solutions to eliminate reoccurrence.
Install and support the interface of manufacturing equipment to the plant network for recipe control and data collection.
Update and design electrical drawings and schematics.
Implement and update various external devices connected to systems such as label printers and scanners.
Identify and implement process improvements to increase the operational efficiency of manufacturing equipment.
Document program changes and improvements for lessons learned and group communication.
Interface well with other teams to perform root cause analysis and develop solutions to production problems.
Coordinate with production engineering and maintenance teams to lead equipment repairs and projects.
Prepare technical reports and presentations.
Analyze problems in a high pressure production atmosphere.
Adapt well to changing responsibilities and work environmentQualifications:
Excellent knowledge of manufacturing controls systems and automation
Can work with all types of controls and automation components
Excellent PLC, HMI, VFD, servo programming skills
Debug and troubleshoot with no assistance
Able to train and lead others
Able to lead projects with no direction
Excellent knowledge of electrical practices and safety codes
Excellent communication skills – oral and written
Initiates and develops projects
Results-oriented
Works with a sense of urgency
Ability to work with a diverse range of people and in a team setting
15 years minimum experience
PLC, HMI, VFD, Servo programming/project experience
Major project experience
BSEE, BSEET or other relevant BS Engineering degree with a controls focus
