Enterprise Batch Services (EBS) / Production Control team works in an Enterprise Environment that demands highly secure and reliable batch processing. As a Staff member you will be responsible for product support, in mainframe and distributed batch scheduling environments across multiple applications, act as level 1 support for batch execution while working closely with application support teams, Batch Scheduling team, and Information Technology Operations (ITO). A successful candidate will be passionate about partnering with our application support and development teams and examining batch processes to find the best solutions with a focus on continuous process improvement. The individual candidate must be highly motivated with a proven track record of success in working in a large scale data center environment. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in all phases of batch design and engineering across mainframe and server platforms. Production Control is the first line of notification and escalation of batch anomalies and Service Level Agreement notifications. Our goal is to be a recognized leader within Schwab's technical community delivering the highest levels of batch systems and infrastructure availability for one of the largest most respected financial service companies in the country

What you are good at

As a Staff, Technical Support member in Production Control, you will be a team member with a strong ability to set priorities with the focus on meeting critical production support, customer deliverables and project commitments. This candidate will be expected to work closely with engineering and application development teams across multiple organizations to implement technical solutions in order to support the requirements of our growing business. This person is expected to be self-motivated, and provide directional support during day-to-day interaction and on-call support. You will help to insure policies and procedures are followed in daily activities; perform procedure reviews and updates, as well as providing input with management regarding new procedures. The Staff, Technical Support member recommends corrective action plans for gaps or inadequate infrastructure or application design, and assists in detailed documentation, recovery, and escalation during incidents.

Responsibilities:

The Production Control team's primary objective is to safeguard production batch integrity and ensure production batch service level agreements are met. You will liaise with ITO and Applications Development teams and supporting organizations to deliver sustained levels of availability that enables the business to meet or exceed objectives, and will also participate at some level in all aspects of IT Service Management processes.
  • Availability Management
    • Daily oversight of critical batch processes completeness for Business Services up time/availability.
    • Assist in identifying needed improvement in critical batch schedules
    • Participate in Technical planning calls
  • Incident Management
    • Assist in documentation, recovery, and escalation during incidents disruption to the business.
    • Oversight, tracking and reporting of service impacting trends.
    • Ensure action items are updated to the correct groups.
    • Creating detailed Incident tickets and PBI ticketing for all aspects of the incident.
    • Documenting incidents and PBI's in turnover and the PBI tracking document in Production Control HipChat
  • Change Management
    • Review of daily changes for critical batch updates
    • Assess impact & risk of changes. Recommend enhancements to minimize risk
    • Track Request for Change (RFC) implemented to FIX service impacting incidents
  • Release Management
    • You will be integral in supporting many change activities including Stream and Disaster Recovery testing as well as weekly system maintenances and Applications Development installation releases.
    • Responsible for "production batch readiness" for critical Business Services and infrastructures
    • Executing assigned tasks to Production Control during roll-outs and upgrades for critical Business Services and infrastructures.
  • Relationship Management
    • Maintain relationships and liaise between the business engineering and applications development groups as well as ITO
  • Continuity Management
    • Oversight and coordination of 'Failover & Stress" testing for critical Business Service and infrastructures

What you have

Required minimum qualifications include:

Minimum of 5 - 8 years directly related experience.
  • BMC Control-M proficiency scheduling and executing batch is required.- Experience in JES/SDSF, ISPF, JCL, Control-M, CA11, NAS, SA level knowledge of UNIX / LINUX / Windows environments, Formula and file transfers (NDM, FTP, SFTP, PGP/FTP, NFS).
  • The candidate must be able to interact with all levels of technical and managerial staff and will have proven leadership abilities and display excellent skills in understanding problem determination and service restoration.
  • Able to follow detailed and complex directions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are keys to success in this role as this position will have regular interaction with various support groups, end-users and management as well as responsibility to document processes and procedures.
  • Another key success factor for this candidate is building skills in co-workers through cross-training and mentoring, taking every interaction as an opportunity to learn or teach.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills for technical presentations, product demonstrations, answering technical questions, and customer follow-up.
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively cooperate well with others.
  • Excellent at gauging customer impact and escalate with the appropriate sense of urgency.
  • Demonstrated experience of coordinating batch restoration activity across multiple technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand multiple technologies and how they inter-relate and integrate.
  • The ability to exercise sound judgment and make timely decisions considering all alternatives during a crisis situation.
  • Demonstrated ability to envision creative solutions to problems.
  • Ability to participate in 24x7 support schedules with some travel.
