Job Description This is a hybrid role and does not require employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work off-site on a permanent basis. In the USA, this is an employee who lives more than 100 miles from their designated primary worksite. Employees may only work remote in the 48 continguous states.
The Automated Driving, Active Safety (ADAS) Mapping Software team develops and delivers mapping software solutions using artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) techniques to support GM's automated, hands free driving solutions for North America and beyond. We tackle the many challenges of map topology, scalability, real-time performance, verification and safety. The team is part of an Agile Release Train in the SAFe framework.The Role ADAS Mapping is looking for a dynamic, experienced Principal Software Engineer to join our team of software engineers to help us build out the infrastructure and provide solutions for our AI/ML product ecosystems. Must have a strong background in team build, technology, system integration, data architecture, and agile software development methodologies.The successful candidate will guide and prioritize the development and release of software for maps. You will work cross-functionally with multiple teams and stakeholders to frequently deliver high quality, production level code for ADAS features. You will work collaboratively with stakeholders to understand and ensure that the software meets our customers' requirements and scheduled milestones. As a principal Engineer, you will be responsible to triage, develop, demonstrate, test & release software for high impact projects that deliver on GM's vision of zero crashes, zero emissions, & zero congestion.Responsibilities- The ideal candidate will have a highly technical background with the ability to develop a team as well as engage senior GM business executives and engineering leadership on solutions and technology capabilities.
- Key responsibilities include:
- Ability to code Python, interact with large data sets and machine learning frameworks with limited to no supervision. This role requires the ability to drive the agile process, monitoring and testing, CI|CD; teach high quality code practices/reviews focused on use of best patterns and correcting anti-patterns
- Drive performance, quality, and scalability across the product landscape
- Become the subject-matter expert on the product capabilities, technologies, and infrastructure
- Work with a wide range of systems, processes, and technologies to own and solve problems from end-to-end
- Lead a team of software engineers with collaboration and communication at the core of how we work
- Examine and ensure the technology and architecture choices we make to drive the strategic technical vision and roadmaps
- Continuously improve software development processes, tools, and standards
- Solve and fix technical issues involving software development and product releases
- Collaborate within the broader GM IT organizations on both a technology and business level, driving requirement and needs as required for successful technical delivery
- 6+ years developing cutting-edge enterprise applications in an architect/leadership customer-facing capacity
- Experience working with engineering teams operating in an Agile environment
- Experience in developing highly scalable, and high-performance distributed systems, with a strong understanding of data structures and algorithms
- Must be an excellent debugger and problem solver driven to possess knowledge and understanding of how things work
- Demonstrated knowledge in software programming languages (Python)
- Demonstrated knowledge of database modeling and data structure principles, techniques, and best practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge in building, debugging, and maintaining mission critical enterprise applications.
- 2 to 4+ years working in automotive production environment of SAFe Agile Release Train or Agile Scrum
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software, Electrical or Computer Engineering
- Advanced degrees preferred
- Understanding of major automotive vehicle systems such as Advanced Driver-Assistance (ADAS)
- Experience with Machine/Deep Learning algorithms
- Experience with Data Visualization and Business Intelligence tools (e.g. HUE, Jupyter, PowerBI)
- Experience with SAFe methodologies
- Demonstrated knowledge in multiple software development disciplines (i.e. Agile, Scrum, SDLC).
- Big Data and related knowledge/experience
- Experience with GIS software development
- Experience with simulation and automation
