The Nuclear Operations Directorate (NOD) has an immediate opening for an Associate Principal Director to provide on-site leadership to the NOD staff supporting the US Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center's Sentinel (formerly Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD)) and Minuteman III Programs. Support will also be required for other Nuclear Operations Directorate (NOD) programs.

The position is located at Hill AFB about 30 minutes north of Salt Lake City, Utah and reports to the Principal Director for NOD.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Provide front-line engagement to USAF Sentinel and Minuteman III leadership up to and including O-6/GS-15 level.
  • Provide on-site leadership of Hill AFB (Utah) corporate location facilities and staff. Monitor operations to ensure compliance with corporate policies and safety/security of staff. Report issues to appropriate corporate support organizations and notify the Principal Director of Nuclear Operations Directorate.
  • Develop understanding of customer needs and direct organization resources and operation to respond effectively to those needs. Advise customer management of work progress and issues. Assemble and direct teams established to analyze, define, and satisfy customer needs from available resources; supplements teams from outside resources as needed. Continuously monitor overall technical endeavors of teams and individuals involved in advanced research and development.
  • Represent programmatic components of corporate memory and provide essential continuity required as customer staff are rotated in their assignments and as new contractors are engaged in different program phases.
  • Interact daily with customer as needed to rapidly assemble special task teams, efficiently assign responsibilities, and action items, and rapidly exchange information.
  • Build and lead multi-disciplinary teams of subject matter experts to ensure appropriate tasking, progress, and results are achieved across all Sentinel system areas including, but not limited to: system design, modeling and simulation, prototype and test, initial ground/flight checkout and other ground/flight missions, flight operations, and operational transition support.
  • Establish and focus organization direction and objectives consistent with corporate goals, customer needs and assigned functions. Communicate goals to subordinates and supervision and monitors progress towards stated goals. Direct, assess, recognize, and reward efforts of subordinate managers and staff in achieving organizational goals and objectives. Monitor performance of direct and subordinate staff, conducts performance reviews, recommends salary actions, and recommend performance improvement, career development, training, reassignment, transfer, and other staff deployments.
  • Establish organization structure and staffing. Recommend budgets, allocates resources, and establishes priorities. Report organization technical activities, issues, and accomplishments to upper management, subordinates, and customers through briefings and written/oral reports.
  • Manage resources (STE hours, etc.), staff, and engineering matrix support to execute planned accountabilities that could include planning analysis with the customer, leading Aerospace analysis, participating in non-Aerospace analysis, reviewing the work of others, and supporting tool development and validation.
  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed
  • Ensure organization compliance with applicable security regulations and promotes security and safety awareness.
  • The Leadership Competency Model dimensions of People and Accountability are the most critical to this position. This position is directly accountable for execution of STE allocated to Sentinel tasks, responsible for recruitment, performance assessment, mentoring, career planning, retention of Aerospace staff, tracking resources, and periodic reporting and responsible for relationship building and maintenance with USAF customers.

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:
  • BS or advanced degree from an accredited program in a STEM
  • 15 or more years of industry or USAF experience
  • This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
  • Current SSBI with either active TS or SCI access and with the ability to obtain and maintain SAP accesses.
  • Experience in a technical discipline of relevance to missiles and space booster program acquisition and development
  • 5+ years experience managing both staff and budgets
  • Willing to travel domestically approx. 25%.

  • Masters or Ph.D. degree from an accredited program in STEM field
  • Possess both a TS and SCI access
  • Have current or have previously held DOD SAP access
  • 10+ years of experience in a formal management role of staff and budgets
  • Experience managing $10M+ in annual labor deliveries
  • Experience in tasking and managing Aerospace ETG staff
  • Experience supporting ICBM or space booster programs
  • Experience supporting booster development programs
  • Experience with re-entry vehicle programs
