Job Description
Data Analyst / Programmer / Project Manager 2 (Metadata Specialist) Lehi, Utah or Remote 12-24 month contract This contract position is an intermediate-level, professional role responsible for developing and maintaining software source code to support a solution under the supervision of an assigned technical lead. As a member of a development team, the individual will receive specific work direction, most often from a technical lead. The individual will be expected to solve moderately complex data and technical issues and complete scripting and data manipulation tasks with limited supervision. Project Deliverables- Provide a standardized set of parent jurisdictions (e.g., counties and states) for all China and other Asian countries
- Assist any volunteers or missionaries gather data for their region by training and data review
- Write and run scripts to ingest place data that has been gathered
- Gather and ingest historical data (back to 1850) for towns, villages, and parental jurisdiction in China
- Assist the rest of the Authorities team members with issues as they relate to improving standards in China
- The Jaipu Records ingested by FamilySearch are going to be published soon. The historical places in China going back to 1850 need to be researched and entered Family Search Places System.
- Second priority will be the places and historical place names in other countries in Asia
- Third priority will be to assist the training and directing of ROCs in any of the Asian countries
- Participate in the analysis of Geographic regions and finding places to be standardized
- Participate in the generating common approaches to data collection
- Provide estimates for tasks
- Develop source code and unit tests to assist in the ingest and analysis of standards
- Participate in code and data reviews
- Contribute to technical, project and guideline documentation
- Participate in the Problem Management process and fix data and programming defects
- Comply with policies, standards, and regulatory requirements and ensure all others are doing the same
- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
- 2 years of relevant professional experience
- Reading Traditional and Simplified Chinese
- Excel - Managing files with 10k to 100k rows
- Basic Programming/Scripting skills (Python) - enough to automate and script in python - this is NOT a full development position.
- Project Management and Training capability
- Communication - communicating complex ideas and working with people that speak different languages and different cultures.
- Intermediate skills in scripting/programming, analytical/diagnostic/troubleshooting, and geography
- Automates tasks for data ingest and data review. Provides basic data analysis and coding, enabling data cleanup in an automated fashion on projects with 20,000 100,000 places.
- Develop, track, and deliver results of a Project Plan built to gather places for a specific region
- Knowledge of Chinese geography and culture
- Experience with mapping software such as ArcGIS
- Any additional foreign language is a bonus
