Full Stack Observability Engineer to join our team and take our observability to the next level. You will work with infrastructure leaders and engineers, Enterprise Architects, Information Security teams, banking system owners, and other technology stakeholders to provide enterprise class observability for the bank’s platforms. The Observability Engineering team oversees platforms that enable our Site Reliability Engineers, Business Analysts and other stakeholders to understand the health and performance of their services. We are looking for someone who will play a lead role in our observability tools. As a member of the Observability team, you will help us to enable the organization to utilize logs, metrics, and traces combined with AI and MLOps event management layers. The ideal candidate will have experience with:
  • Network Performance Monitoring (NPM)
  • Application Performance Monitoring (APM)
  • Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
  • Cloud Native monitoring tools such as Sensu, Grafana, Sysdig
  • Log aggregation and analytics platforms
  • Active and passive user experience monitoring solutions
  • Python coding
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Legacy infrastructure as well as cloud/container/virtualized environment monitoring
  • Event Management (as defined by ITIL)
Other Responsibilities:
  • 24/7 Oncall rotations for observability platform support
  • Lead community of practice for observability to increase awareness and drive adoption of our observability platforms
  • Work with the team in support of critical business functions to meet organizational objectives
  • Ensure the solutions meet the requirements of all stakeholders including business, technology, risk, and operations, with a secure, accurate, available, and compliant technology solution
  • Ensure the platform team has the needed technical skills, competencies, business domain expertise, process knowledge, industry sector knowledge, and capacity to achieve organizational goals and objectives
  • Manage vendor relationships, as needed, ensuring the vendors’ performance and contributions align with organizational objectives and strategy
  • Assist in managing the total cost of ownership of the platform including hardware, software, licensing and professional services of the solutions
Qualifications:
  • 6+ years’ experience working with monitoring/observability platforms and interacting with relevant vendors from those fields.
  • General understanding of DevOps and Observability principles and practices
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Must be able to communicate effectively with senior business and technical management, vendors, and team members.
  • Proven ability to identify, analyze and solve problems through close attention to detail
  • Excellent leadership, design, and organizational skills.
Preferred:
  • Experience with and exposure to cloud ready and cloud native contexts, both using on-prem technologies (e.g. OpenShift) as well as public cloud service (e.g. Azure, AWS, IBM, Google Cloud Platform)
  • Machine Learning and AIOps technologies experience
  • Experience managing complex platforms, processes, and tools.
  • Strong working knowledge of financial/banking systems preferred.
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related degree.
A combination of education and experience may meet requirements. Location: This opportunity is located in our brand new Zions Technology Center or 100% remote within the continental United States. We have a hybrid schedule of 3 days in the office and 2 days at home if you are within the Salt Lake City area.
