Job Summary

This role will be filled at the entry or intermidiate level depending on the qualified candidate's experience and education.

Instrument & Control Technician I - Entry Level:

This role installs, maintains, and troubleshoots instrumentation, control circuits and equipment related to natural gas processes such as the compression, dehydration, measurement, transmission and storage of natural gas. Installation includes mounting, wiring, connecting, testing, configuring, and programming instruments and devices. Maintenance includes routine calibration, and functional testing of process instruments and devices, documentation of calibration data collected during inspections utilizing the instrument inspection monitoring system, verification of data communication systems that provide real time process and alarm information to the facility control center. Troubleshooting includes the utilization of equipment such as a laptop computer, multi-meter, instrument/device communicator, device software, documenting process calibrator, etc. Develops and maintains interactive work relationships to accurately and effectively complete job responsibilities. Directs, advises, instructs, inspects, supports, and/or assists contractors and employees in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of assets. Ensures regulatory and compliance standards are met.

Instrument & Control Tech II - Intermediate Level:

This role will inspect, test, service, repair, calibrate, and install indicating, recording, and automatic control instruments such as flow meters, pressure gauges, thermometers, regulators, and similar components in a power station. Locate cause of defective performance of instruments, report findings to supervisor, and replace component parts as required. Use portable pressure gauges, manometer, and other similar test equipment. Perform preventive maintenance. Test flue gas, read meters, and record data as required. Perform tuning tasks on single loop controls. Maintain and perform necessary changes to drawings related to instrumentation. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

Instrument & Control Tech I requires a minimum of 2 years experience.

Instrument & Control Teck II requires a minimum of 5 years experience.

Both positions require at least a minimum of one year direct hands-on experience in instrumentation, PLCs and Computer Systems .Knowledge of reciprocating and turbine engines, gas dehydration, measurement, environmental motoring, compression and supporting systems. Knowledge of electric driven compressors may be required. Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and principles. Knowledge of Measurement devices (Press, Flow, Temperature, Moisture, Vibration, Speed, Density, Level) and ability to calibrate the same. Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS). Knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives (VFD). Knowledge of Human Machine Interface (HMI). Knowledge of Ethernet Communications Equipment. Knowledge of valves and positioners. Knowledge of National Electric Code and National Bureau of Standards Transmitter calibration and tolerance standards. Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements. Ability to interpret control system software for the purpose of diagnostic troubleshooting. Ability to pass electrical, electronic and digital equipment troubleshooting tests. Ability to troubleshoot electrical, electronic and pneumatic equipment. Ability to interpret installation specifications, wiring schematics, instrument drawings and component diagrams. Ability to define specifications and requisition instrumentation and control equipment. Ability to define problems, collect data and draw conclusions. Ability to work independently and as a team member. Ability to communicate effectively and develop rapport. Ability to operate diagnostic equipment (multimeter, calibrator, oscilloscope, etc.). Ability to operate personal computer

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

Associate degree, preferably in Electronics & Communications Engineering, IT Technology, or Computer Technology

MountainWest Pipeline (formerly Dominion Energy Questar Pipeline, LLC) is an interstate natural gas pipeline company that provides transportation and underground storage services in Utah, Wyoming and Colorado. MountainWest Pipeline owns and operates the Clay Basin storage facility located on the Wyoming-Utah border. Clay Basin is the largest underground storage reservoir in the Rocky Mountain Region. MountainWest Pipeline owns and operates the Overthrust Pipeline in southwestern Wyoming and operates and owns 50% of the White River Hub which provides transportation and hub services through interconnections with six interstate pipeline systems and a major processing plant near Meeker, Colorado.
