Job Description

Cloud Engineer 5 Riverton, Utah or Remote Direct Hire A Cloud Engineer 5 is a specialist level professional role responsible for cloud systems, on-prem infrastructure and services needed to bridge cloud and on-prem architecture. Cloud Engineers are involved in the Prepare and Commit phase as they help the solution team identify viable designs and products. The position configures cloud platforms, codes, and manages APIs or applications related to cloud deployments, and integrates applications with cloud services. This position is responsible for documenting the system components o the business, information, application, and technical architectures. The incumbent is responsible for creating and documenting the detail design for the system. As the project moves into the create phase, this position is responsible to build instances of the system to support the rest of the implementation team. This role helps guide the system on its transition to production. Responsibilities:
  • Provide significant input and direction to strategic plans and product roadmaps with a focus on cloud products
  • Code APIs to work with cloud systems and when required to help bridge on-prem systems and applications with the cloud
  • Code applications designed to work with or enhance features offered by cloud platforms
  • Translate architectural requirements into PaaS, IaaS and serverless solutions
  • Deploy, manage, and operate scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management and maintenance of system operational excellence and sustaining high uptime
  • Deal with all aspects of networking, monitoring, alerting, deploying, restarting, and keeping systems healthy
  • Responsible for taking and responding promptly to after hour calls, dealing with the NOC, and responding to operational support concerns and inquiries from other teams dependent upon the systems
  • Implement and control data flow to and from cloud service providers
  • Design measures to protect cloud systems from security compromise and to keep the system safe
  • Document the steps required to fulfill service requests
  • Plan and perform approved scheduled and emergency maintenance where cloud products have been customized or configured.
  • This includes documenting the maintenance and following the change management process. In some situations, this role will also be required to approve documented change requests
  • Respond to escalated incidents and engage vendors as necessary. Identify, track, and resolve associated problems
  • Author and maintain documentation and knowledge-based articles
  • Adhere to all security guidelines and those systems are properly protected with working backups; ensure all others with access are doing the same
  • Perform general research to evaluate a range of product offerings and evaluate emerging trends
  • Identify and document technical application, architectures, and requirements
  • Order, provision and configure supporting systems and infrastructure
  • Interact with vendors, provide feedback on their products, and help select which vendors the Church will use
  • Participate in the design and implementation of supporting systems and infrastructure
  • Train other team members on the use of the cloud systems and infrastructure. Keep training material up to date
Qualifications: Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent professional experience
Work Experience:
  • 8 years system engineering or relevant experience in a large structured operational environment
  • 4 years cloud computing and development experience
Required Skills:
  • Solid understanding of core cloud technologies and tools
  • Experience with templating languages and configuration management tools
  • Knowledge of networking concepts like DNS, TCP/IP and firewalls
  • Experience working in a structured large-scale operational environment
  • Solid understanding of virtualization and containerization
  • Must be familiar with DevSecOps, Scrum, and ITIL concepts, and have operational understanding and discipline
  • Proven experience with Change, Incident, and Problem management processes
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven leadership and management skills
  • Proven as an exceptional troubleshooter with the ability to think under pressure
Bonus Skills:
  • Experience engineering solutions in public, private and hybrid cloud platforms
  • Experience with various scripting languages and restful API's
  • Cloud Certified DevOps Engineer Professional or Solutions Architect
  • Professional cloud certification
