Job Summary

The position will be based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Relocation assistance will be provided if eligible. This position may be filled at an entry level, intermediate level, or advanced level providing engineering support in the Automation Engineering group (Instrumentation and Controls).

Engineer I

Entry level position providing engineering support in the Automation Engineering group. Under direction of supervision, performs routine assignments intended to develop a fundamental ability to apply standard engineering techniques, processes, and practices used in support of natural gas facilities.Limited exercise of judgment is required on adaptations of established engineering processes.

Engineer II

Intermediate level position providing engineering support in the Automation Engineering group.Distinguished from Engineer I by increased complexity in application of engineering skills and full competency in all conventional aspects of the subject matter.Under direction of supervision, exercises independence in evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering techniques, processes, and practices in support of natural gas facilities.Uses independent judgment in prioritizing work and making moderately complex adaptations.Assignments have clear and specified objectives and require investigation of a limited number of variables.

Engineer III

Advanced level position providing engineering support in the Automation Engineering group.Distinguished from Engineer II by increased complexity in application of engineering skills, full competency in all aspects of the subject matter, ability to contribute to projects in other engineering disciplines. Exercises independence in evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering techniques, processes, and practices in support of natural gas facilities. Uses independent judgment in prioritizing work and making complex adaptations. Project assignments may require initial conceptual development, may require expertise/experience in other engineering disciplines, and may require investigation of a large number of variables. Under direction of supervision, provides technical leadership/mentoring to others. Under direction of supervision, provides department standards and continuous process improvement.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

Engineer I

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering • 0 to 2 years relevant experience in industrial control systems and/or natural gas industry • Valid driver's license and ability to drive • Effective decision-making skills, skill in use of software applications, logical and abstract thinking skills, strong communication skills including technical writing, and technical troubleshooting skills • Ability to effectively work within a team environment • Fundamental knowledge of engineering techniques, processes, and practices • Ability to apply standard engineering techniques, processes, and practices to routine problems. • Ability to develop project management skills and to handle multiple tasks.

Preferred qualifications include: • Experience in natural gas distribution/transmission industry Engineer II

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering • 3+ years relevant experience in industrial control systems and/or natural gas industry • Valid driver's license and ability to drive • Effective decision-making skills, skill in use of software applications, logical and abstract thinking skills, strong communication skills including technical writing, and technical troubleshooting skills • Ability to effectively work independently or in a team environment • Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills in a technical environment • Ability to adapt standard engineering techniques, processes, and practices to complex problems when necessary • Ability to develop project management skills for moderately complex projects and to exercise good judgement independently to prioritize work

Preferred qualifications include: • Experience in natural gas distribution/transmission industry • Knowledge/experience in project management • Professional Engineer license Engineer III

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering • 5+ years relevant experience in industrial control systems and/or natural gas industry • Valid driver's license and ability to drive • Effective decision-making skills, skill in use of software applications, logical and abstract thinking skills, strong communication skills including technical writing, and technical troubleshooting skills • Ability to effectively work independently or in a team environment • Ability to exercise leadership skills in a technical environment • Ability to adapt standard engineering techniques, processes, and practices to complex problems when necessary • Ability to manage moderately complex projects and to exercise good judgement independently to prioritize work • Ability to contribute to cross-functional teams beyond recognized area of expertise

Preferred qualifications include: • Experience in natural gas distribution/transmission industry • Knowledge/experience in project management • Professional Engineer license

Education Requirements

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

• Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a postgraduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or • Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or • Hold or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
