Supervisor: Director of Adult Education, Guadalupe School

Guadalupe Schools is a private non-profit which seeks transform the lives of children and immigrant adults through education. The Adult Education Program utilizes community volunteers to provide small-group instruction in English Language Acquisition to low-income immigrant adults.

Position: Program Assistant (Part-time, hourly)

Adult Education seeks a Program Assistant to create and maintain student records, manage the program's relationships and collaborative partnerships outside the school community, and supervise support services (van driver, kitchen aide, childcare staff) for the program. Tutoring duties required as needed.

Qualifications:

 Attention to detail absolutely vital.

 Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, G-mail and the Internet.

 Punctuality, dependability and organization are absolute musts.

 Must have compassion and caring for low-income immigrant adults who are seeking to improve their lives through education.

 Must be able to improvise on short notice and handle stressful situations with good humor.

 Top-notch customer-service skills, including excellent phone skills and welcoming demeanor.

 Must be comfortable with basic supervision and training of support staff.

 Experience with teaching and/or tutoring adults with limited English proficiency strongly preferred.

 A commitment to and appreciation of the volunteer experience.

 Certified administrator of Basic English Skills Test (BEST) preferred.

 Some proficiency in Spanish a plus.

 Basic understanding of state accountability procedures a plus.

Responsibilities include:

 Maintaining student files, rolls and test results, weekly and monthly.

 Student and volunteer recruitment activities.

 Orientation and initial support of all volunteers.

 Maintaining relationships with program's designated collaborative partners, with guidance from Program Director. Collecting materials for student social services referrals.

 Assistance as needed with Adult Education Thrift Store.

 Assisting with hire, training and supervision of program support staff.

 Maintain up-to-date childcare rosters and van routes.

 Other duties as required.

Hours: $14.50 / hr. 18-24 hours per week, depending on program calendar. Tuesday and Thursday nights 5:00-9:30 PM required year round. Monday and Wednesday nights 5:00-9:30 PM also required October-June. All other hours flexible.
