ÂTissue Donation Coordinator responsibilities:

Responsible for donor workup process including in-depth medical evaluation of clinical course, hemodilution, medical records including past medical history, preliminary information provided by referral source, behavioral risk information, investigator narratives, works closely with organ team to assess tissue eligibility for combined cases; based on FDA, AATB, & Processor criteria. Obtains release of jurisdiction from the medical examiner or coroner when applicable.Â

Responsible for Facilitating Donation conversations with donor families and providing all relevant donation options and information necessary to ensure informed donation decision. Speaks with grieving families on the phone or in-person providing support and assistance through the donation conversation. Responsible for completing the Donor Risk Assessment, including identifying a valid historian and identifying contradictions for donation as applicable.Â

Responsible for completion of Authorization paperwork and identification of the appropriate authorizing person based on legal order of priority. Completes authorization paperwork primarily for tissue and eye donation, and for organ donation by phone for telephonic authorization. Responsible for the completion of follow up screening with processors. Clearly communicates donor status or potential to the Tissue Recovery Coordinator, hospitals, Organ Coordinators, OME/Coroner, funeral homes, and eye banks in a timely manner as applicable. Responsible for the timely correction of paperwork.Â

This is a full-time position and requires shift work. Shifts consist of four ten hour shifts fromÂ10am to 8pm, or 3 twelve hour shifts from either 7am to 7pm, or 7pm to 7am. The days of the shifts will often rotate, must be flexible and available to work weekends as needed. This position also requires prompt charting corrections, and meetings every Monday, or Tuesdays when holiday falls on a Monday.

This is a 24-hour industry and in some instances, such as holidays may require a 24-hour shift to be worked. Work involves long periods of sitting and working on a computer and telephone.

Requirements:

Training/Education/Certification:

Associates degree preferred in health sciences, science related field, communication or psychology

CTBS, CEBT, CPTC, ASCP certification preferred

Required Knowledge:

Knowledge of the organ and tissue transplant fields

Intermediate computing skills

Basic knowledge of disease processes

Experience Required:

One year of equivalent experience in one of the following: medical experience, grief or crisis management medical or dental customer service, tissue banking with an Associates degree or two years of equivalent experience without an Associates degree

Medical terminology

Skills/Abilities:

Excellent public relations and interpersonal abilities

Solid oral and written communication skills

Able to maintain accurate records and real-time documentation

Able to work well with all levels of personnel in hospital settings and within the differing guidelines of each institution

Ability to coordinate and manage a variable workload often under intense pressure and within limited time frames

Ability to make a sound clinical assessment in a fast-paced environment

Must have a high level of interpersonal communication skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations

Must possess a high level of self-motivation and well-developed time management, organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills

Ability to adhere to set guidelines and work instructions while paying close attention to detail

Committed to providing a high level of customer service

Proficiency in the use of computer equipment and software, and typing, including but not limited to Windows environment (Word, Excel, Outlook)
