We build a platform to provide the best possible support to our customers shopping for insurance, where our insurance carriers can be confident their products are represented accurately and unbiased.As a Database Engineer, you will play a central role in the development and delivery of back and front-end systems for Willis Towers Watson. The ideal candidate will have a passion for SQL best practices with the ability to explain their implementation and reasoning. Additionally, the candidate will have a strong background in building scalable systems using SQL Server and proficiency in the administration and development of relational databases, using a Scrum/Agile development methodology.As a senior member of the development team, we are looking for someone a depth of knowledge, an advocate of best practices, and a collaborative partner with other engineering team members. We look for self-starters who thrive in an active, agile environment – which means being proactive in building reliable solutions, delivering on tasks in a timely manner, and showing an eagerness to learn new skills as the need arises. In this role, you work with on a collaborative team of engineers – so excellent interpersonal and communication skills are also important.The RoleContribute to building an environment where technical excellence and delivery of outstanding data and database solutions is in focus

Work with engineering team members to ensure a maintainable architecture is created on new projects and features

Adhere to and advocate for development best practices including test driven development, and agile methodologies

Contribute ideas for continually improving the team's productivity and code quality

Become an expert in our existing systems in order to innovate on their further improvement

Qualifications:3+ years of experience in producing software

Expert-level experience with at least Microsoft SQL Server

Expert experience with TDD, performance measuring and improvement, scalability

Organize and prioritize individual workload in order to meet required deadlines

Communicate effectively with team members, team leads, and management

Work as a member of a team, accept ownership of work and actively contribute to team discussions

Excellent decision-making skills

Any combination of the following are not necessary but would be considered a plus: Azure, documenting databases, SSIS
