Our work depends on a Server and Compute Lead joining our team to support one of our federal customers with locations in Bethesda, Rockville, and Frederick. This will be a hybrid onsite / remote position; however, the successful candidate will be local to the DC Metropolitan area to facilitate onsite presence when needed.At GDIT, we foster a people-centric environment. As a Server and Compute Lead supporting GDIT’s federal customer, you will be trusted to lead a team in providing server and compute support, maintaining and supporting server infrastructure, using on-premise as well as cloud-based server resources, supporting application, database, file & print, and web and application server needs.In this role, a typical day will include leading the team in performing the following activities:Lead team of engineers: junior/mid/senior/master, conducting technical and people management

Perform general server support, server resource modification and automation, performance and availability monitoring, and remote access services.

Install new server hardware and software according to standard operating procedures

Update hardware, operating systems, and software as needed to provide required functionality and security

Support operational management and patch management

Monitor systems and provide information and statistics relevant to system capacity limits on data storage, system utilization, etc.

Perform scheduled maintenance activities on all components of relevant systems (many activities occur after normal business hours)

Provide hardware and software configuration management (SCM) and change management services to the project

Provide support co-location activities for customers

Provide statistics of systems usage, systems outages, end user requests, etc. at meetings, planning sessions, and other interactions with customer

Develop and document system disaster recovery tests, in accordance with customer policy, on a quarterly basis to ensure data integrity and availability

Collects, analyzes, tracks, and reports program metrics.

Mentors junior team members.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:BS/BA or equivalent and ten to twelve (10-12) years of IT knowledge and demonstrated hands-on experience and/or training.

Six to nine (6-9) years’ experience in server systems engineering and administration including 3+ years in a technical leader role

ITIL certification preferred but will consider candidates with proven ITIL experience

At least two of the following certifications:

Linux Foundation Certified Sysadmin

Linux Foundation Certified Engineer

Microsoft Certified Solutions Associated – Windows Server

Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert – Windows Server and/or Cloud

VMware VCA (DCV and/or CMA tracks)

VMware VCP (DCV and/or CMA tracks)

Experience managing cloud-based server resources.

Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing.

Must possess strong organizational skills and strong interpersonal skills to effectively relate to agency and customer needs.

Experience installing and supporting server devices: physical and virtual.

Experience managing server environments with a minimum of 300 servers and / or 1000 virtual machines

Experience troubleshooting server issues and diagnosing root cause of issue

Experience with deployment of hosting systems, preferably those at co-location facilities
