Analytical Services, Inc. (ASI) has an opening for an Environmental Virologist in our environmental microbiology laboratory in Williston, Vermont.

The primary duties of this position will include the processing and analysis of environmental samples for the detection of viruses using traditional cell culture (plaque assay and MPN formats) and real-time PCR, preparing reports for review and logging control results for QA/QC. The job duties may also include other microbiological analyses, data entry, report review and other duties as assigned.

Successful candidates will be trained using Standard Operating Procedures to work not only independently but also as part of the Laboratory Operations team in a fast-paced, professional laboratory environment.

Hours: Full-time – typically 40 hours per week

Education: BS or higher degree in Microbiology or related field.

Knowledge: Cell culture experience required. Professional laboratory experience preferred.

Skills: Cell culture and propagation. Ability to distinguish cytopathic effect from cytotoxicity.

Real-time PCR. Standard microbiological bench skills, including aseptic technique

Other Competencies: Excellent organizational skills, attentive to detail, efficient, strong work ethic, good team member

Position physical requirements: Requires fine and gross motor skills, most work performed standing at bench. Requires lifting of approximately 30 lbs.
