Description: About GlobalFoundries \: GlobalFoundries is a leading full-service semiconductor foundry providing a unique combination of design, development, and fabrication services to some of the world's most inspired technology companies. With a global manufacturing footprint spanning three continents, GlobalFoundries makes possible the technologies and systems that transform industries and give customers the power to shape their markets. GlobalFoundries is owned by Mubadala Investment Company. For more information, visit www.gf.com . Summary of Role\: The intern will complete one of the following or similar projects. 1. Breaching replacement project. Due to age and sulfuric acid attach, our site HTHW generator breaching will have to be replaced in the near future. 2. HTHW Secondary pump S&R header replacement project. Due to age, temperature and pressure, the valves isolating the generators, to and from the secondary pumps and the feeds to all site buildings will need to be rebuilt in the near future when it becomes impossible to isolate any of the above. As this is a no shutdown site, this project will involve multiple options to do this with the shortest site shutdown possible. 3. CHW return heat exchanger energy savings project. This will look at the feasibility of installing a heat exchanger on the site CHW return to save Natural gas costs for heating the incoming champlain water feed to the DI water system. 4. Site underground sprinkler system replacement project. The site's underground fire protection system is over 50 years old. This project will document the system on Autocad, note known problem areas, investigate interference with installing a new system in the ground, estimate the cost of replacing the system as a whole or in sections, investigate different types of distributed sprinkler systems and do cost estimates for all options. These projects will look at options, pipe routing, costs per option and project scheduling on how to get this done in the shortest site shutdown possible. Deliverable is a bound book with drawings, cost estimates, scope of work, scheduling and all options with a final recommendation Essential Responsibilities include\:
- The intern/Co-Op will work directly with facilities maintenance technicians, system engineers, and manufacturing engineers and technical staff to understand the service and space requirements for semiconductor manufacturing and testing equipment.
- The intern/Co-Op will develop and propose alternate solutions for installing new and relocated manufacturing and test equipment within the existing facility.
- The intern/Co-Op will have the opportunity to learn a wide range of semiconductor manufacturing and testing equipment and associated service requirements including high purity chemical and gas distribution, electrical power, data/communications, and HVAC.
- The intern/Co-Op will have the opportunity to learn and actively participate in the process steps for the management of design and construction in a semiconductor and/or facilities infrastructure environment.
- The assignment will involve recommending and implementing continuous improvements based on findings.
- Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.
- AS or BS Student enrolled in an accredited engineering program.
- Preferred\: chemical, electrical and mechanical engineering.
- Knowledge and /or ability to learn AutoCad
