Responsibilities Joining the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) means being part of the team focused on securing the Nation's physical and cyber infrastructure against threats to public health and safety, economy, and national security. This is an agency-wide position, which is comprised of several geographically separated divisions with a nationwide force: Infrastructure Security Division, Cybersecurity Division, Emergency Communications Division, National Risk Management Center and several organizational units. Typical work assignments include:
  • Applying IT systems security principles and methods in order to recommend appropriate technical strategies to resolve complex and persistent IT security challenges.
  • Reviewing proposed new systems, networks, and software designs for potential security risks.
  • Applying Computer Network Defense (CND) systems security principles and policies to develop long-range plans for IT security systems that anticipate and minimize risks associated with IT systems vulnerabilities.
  • Performing real-time cyber defense incident handling (e.g., forensic collections, intrusion correlation and tracking, threat analysis, and direct system remediation) tasks to support deployable Incident Response Teams.
  • Providing assessments of proposed design measures' feasibility, based on broad knowledge of parameters imposed by the IT infrastructure and operations.

Qualifications This is an open continuous announcement for 60 days, or until all positions are filled. It will be used to fill immediate and future vacancies for this agency. There may be multiple cut-off dates with the first being 10 days after the initial opening date of 11/25/2020. Additional cut-off dates may be established as needed until all vacancies have been filled. You qualify for the GS-13 grade level (starting salary $91,231.00) if you possess information technology related experience demonstrating each of the four required competencies:
  • Attention to Detail: Thoroughness in monitoring all phases IT systems security.
  • Customer Service: Assessing the needs of cybersecurity stakeholders.
  • Oral Communication: Providing advice to IT stakeholders.
  • Problem Solving: Identifying cybersecurity problem areas and recommending solutions to fix problems.
  • In addition to the above requirement you must have at least one year of full-time specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 level in the Federal service, performing at least one of the following duties:
  • Serving as a cyber defense incident responder, with experience providing technical support to cyber defense technicians in resolving cyber defense incidents.
  • Reviewing proposed new systems, networks, and software designs for potential security risks.
  • Assessing IT security systems that minimize risks associated with IT systems vulnerabilities.
  • Reviewing and evaluating security incident response policies.
  • Please note: Experience as a IT Specialist in unrelated areas is not qualifying for this position. You must clearly show related experience in your resume, or you will be rated ineligible. You qualify for the GS-14 grade level (starting salary $107,807.00) if you possess information technology related experience demonstrating each of the four required competencies:
  • Attention to Detail: Thoroughness in monitoring all phases of IT systems security and determining the potential impact of specific vulnerabilities.
  • Customer Service: Assessing the needs of cybersecurity stakeholders and helping organizations better manage risk and increase resilience using all available resources.
  • Oral Communication: Influencing and persuading employees and managers to accept and implement findings and recommendations.
  • Problem Solving: Identifying cybersecurity problem areas and performing real-time cyber defense incident handling.
  • In addition to the above requirement you must have at least one year of full-time specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-13 level in the Federal service, performing at least one of the following duties:
  • Serving as a cyber defense incident responder, with experience coordinating expert technical support to enterprise-wide cyber defense technicians in resolving cyber defense incidents.
  • Developing long-range plans for IT security systems that minimize risks associated with IT systems vulnerabilities.
  • Evaluating the scope and level of detail for security plans and policies.
  • Leading the implementation of new security technologies.
  • Please note: Experience as a IT Specialist in unrelated areas is not qualifying for this position. You must clearly show related experience in your resume, or you will be rated ineligible.
