Typical work assignments include:
  • Executing duties governing hardware, software, and information system acquisition programs and other program management policies.
  • Providing direct support for acquisitions that use information technology (IT) (including National Security Systems), applying IT-related laws and policies, and provides IT-related guidance throughout the total acquisition life cycle.
  • Advising senior management on cost/benefit analysis of information security programs, policies, processes, systems, and elements. Evaluate cost/benefit, economic, and risk analysis in decision-making process.
  • Developing policies and plans and/or advocates for changes in policy that support organizational cyberspace initiatives or required changes/enhancements.
  • Directing the capture, reporting, and analysis of statistical data relating to the organization's operations and directs or personally performs special studies regarding this data.

Qualifications You qualify for the GS-13 grade level (starting salary $103,690.00) if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level performing the following duties:
  • Working on budget implementation and resource (i.e. security personnel, information systems, hardware, and software) allocation to meet mission requirements;
  • Analyzing information and data to address operational requirements and reduce organizational risks; and
  • Supporting the implementation of information technology (IT) security plans and program initiatives.
  • You qualify for the GS-14 grade level (starting salary $122,530.00) if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level performing the following duties:
  • Overseeing the planning and management of resources (i.e. security personnel, information systems, hardware, and software) that include a program budget;
  • Overseeing the implementation of programs and policies related to information technology (IT) security initiatives; and
  • Determining the approaches for assessing and mitigating risks within an organization.
  • National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
